Well since it seems that Freddy's sister wouldn't be open to giving me a discount on the Knob Creek 120 Single Barrel I picked a bottle up today locally.
Here's a little background on the situation of purchasing Spirits here in WA State. We had State Liquor Stores and the price posted included all taxes. Well with the backing of the big chain grocery stores a few years ago the sale was transferred from State run stores to Grocery Stores. There was a provision that the store had to have a certain amount of sales to be able to sell spirits. This eliminated stores like 7Eleven and other small time operations.
Oh Boy! Did the public think this was a Great Deal! They were going to be able to buy spirits really cheaply! However they didn't read the small print in the bill---there was a 20% Hard Liquor Tax! PLUS the State Sales Tax!
The prices listed were just like buying say Paper Towels, they don't show the TOTAL PRICE just the price before all of the taxes!
So when people went to purchase their spirits, they got a real eye opener!!! I can't tell you how many times I got my ass reamed and all because the person didn't understand what they had voted for!
While Tc has been here and understands the logistics of the area I drove down to Milton Freewater OR to shoot some pool with my buddy Ski and while I was there I swung by the Oregon State Liquor Store to make my purchase. In OR they don't have any sales tax and the price on the shelf is what you pay!
I had found the Knob Hill 100 Single Barrel locally and it was $35 before taxes. The Knob Hill 120 Single Barrel was $52 in OR.
I used the Knob Hill website and Milton Freewater was the closest outlet for the 120. I don't know if I could have tried to special order it from one of the Washington stores or not.
Anyway I literally have a bottle of the Knob Hill 120 Single Barrel in hand.
Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Knob Creek Single Barrel | LCBO
Watching the Leafs game and sipping on some Glen Garioch Founders Reserve. It's a young Scotch, but man is it good, and the price is right at only $60 Canadian.

Thanked: 4207Writers tears is a tasty pot still whiskey from Ireland with an interesting flavour profile. Well worth a try if you come across a bottle.

Maybe the label is different for across the border, so I,m not sure. But it does say single barrell reserve and its 120 proof. As for an Irish the offering. Not sure of the spelling but had some at my brothers couple of weeks ago. Tullamore Dew 10 year single malt, I liked it so much I,m going to pick up the 12 year soon. Not bad priced either, cause if my brother paid for it it's cheap. But very good. Tc
