Thanked: 13246Been re-exploring Rye Whiskeys lately
Jim Beam Rye
Bulleit Rye
I even came across a Corn Whiskey from Platte River
Platte Valley Corn Whiskey | American Whiskey Review | MoIppai
Straight, I have to disagree with the reviewer above, but with Cola it is really really good
Planning on trying quite a few more of the many available new Rye's out there

Thanked: 1195I'm not much of a Rye drinker anymore (which is weird, being Canadian and all lol), but I am curious about Jim Beam Rye probably for no other reason than it's not available here. I do enjoy their Bourbon mixed with Ginger Ale though, sometimes with a bit of lime juice; heaven in a glass my friend
Bulleit Rye is another one not available here (TMK at least), but I was not impressed with their Bourbon at all so I'm not in a hurry to try that one.
But if you're on a Rye kick just come to Canada and get your fill

Not sure what to buy—Ardbeg 10 year old or Bowmore Legend. Opinions?

Thanked: 1Personally I'd go with the Ardbeg - more complex and peaty but well balanced with a nice finish. I think the Bowmore would be a bit more one dimensional.
If budget allowed I'd definitely recommend Lagavulin 16.. best Islay IMHO (equaled by their distillers edition which has been matured a second time in sherry casks)

Bought a bottle of 18 year old Glennfiddich recently. Smooth and slightly honey in the mouth, with a smokey/caramel aftertaste. Pour yourself a glass, add a SMALL amount of chilled still water. Bite off a tiny bit of at least 70% cacao dark chocolate, then take a sip. Roll it around in your mouth and let the chocolate melt and then swallow. Immediatley open your mouth and take some quick breaths and you can taste all of the flavors melding together on your pallate. Delicous.

Thanked: 8Just sitting down to sample a drop of Lagavulin 16 year old single malt, a present from my son !
This is really one of my favourites with a lovely smokey peaty flavour.
Darth, you really know the best way to drink a good malt, not over diluting it with ice; but to add just a dash if chilled water. This is way I was shown in Scotland many, many years ago - it brings out the flavour !
Superb !!!

EDIT: @ londoner (I meant to quote but pressed the wrong reply button without realising):
Thanks for that. In the end I got a bottle of Bowmore small batch reserve for £25! Very nice indeed—some great but not overpowering flavours and very drinkable, in my opinion.
I've also discovered Master of Malt's 'drinks by the dram' samples—bought samples of Ardbeg Uigeadail, Talisker 57º North and Hakushu 12 year old (a friend recommended Yamazaki 12 year old but I can't get that as a sample).
I've only had the Hakushu as of yet, which has a slightly smoky, woody richness, lots of crisp citrus notes and an interestingly light and somewhat bitter finish.
I think this is a great way of trying out whiskies without having to buy an entire bottle and I'll definitely be having a lot of fun with this!
