Glenmorainge was recommended in one of the first places I looked. It is going on the short list for sure. Thanks for the tip on Masters of Malt. I will check it out this afternoon.

Glenmorangie and Glenfiddich are probably the most well known and popular Scotch whiskies and they're probably a good bet to get started on. I was recommended, once, to start with a bottle of 12 year old Highland Park, and I reckon that it is a good place to start—it has a little bit but not too much of everything; fruit, citrus, honey, smoke and a good depth. A very good all-rounder
Hell, my mind must be slipping, I had in my brain and didn't question at all that it was a speyside.

The Highland Park is excellent, good call.

Admittedly I often get the two mixed up but it looks like I'm on form today!

I'd really like to try the HP 18 and 21 year olds because I've heard that they're really good, but I've not had the money to spend on one of those yet.

Can't argue with that, luckily That's why there are lots of different types available. I tend to recommend the speyside to people just trying it out, I've seen too many people react badly to the islay stuff right out of the gate. But granted, not everyone.

I've had the 18 but not the 21.

Opinion? (HA! I can't post that on its own because it's too short!)

Really excellent. Better than the 12 by quite a bit. It's been a couple of years, so I don't remember the exact flavors other than being impressed with how excellent it was.

Hum...Ardbeg Corryvreckan is first on my More Expensive list, at the moment (and a little cheaper), because I've been wanting a bottle since the moment I tried it! HP 18 is going on right behind it though!

Just picked up at Dalwhinnie 15, enjoying my first taste of it right this second. Really smooth, a bit smoky, kind of a nice warm honey taste, really balanced. Quite good. I'm going to enjoy this bottle.
