I believe a little too much rye in the mix for me.

I just picked up a bottle of The Dalmore 12 year old. Good stuff. The palate has a hint of apple or pear followed by maple syrup or molasses without the sweetness, followed immediately by a hint of peat smoke. Different from the Speysides and Orkney/Skye scotches I've had so far, but definitely good!

On a side note, I've been enjoying Costco's new Kirkland 15- and 20-year old Scotch offerings. The 15 references The Macallan on the label, while the 20 only mentions Speyside, but both are from the same distiller (different bottlers). Both are somewhat sweet and light in the palate with apple and pear notes. The 15 is more what a lightly sherried Glenfiddich would be like, while the 20 has more sherry but not as much as the classic Macallan lineup. Both are tasty and very more-ish.

Just picks up a bottle of the balvenie double wood. Can't wait to try this out. Also had a bit of the laphroaig quarter cask today and I enjoyed it. I might have to pick up a bottle of it too!

I had some balvenie last night, not bad. Also some cragganmore, and that was excellent!

Finished a Bottle of Highland Park 30 year with a couple friends and had a Dram of Laproaig 18 as well. Very good night!!

So gents I have a question for you, Im a younger fella on a tight budget but I got the Scotch bug when I purchased a bottle of Glenmorangie 10 to celebrate the opening of a show I was working on. I tried some Walker Black Label not long after and liked the peat but would have liked some more complexity. Any recommendations for a relatively inexpensive, semi peaty scotch?

I have no idea what prices are like where you are, but how about Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old? It's not exactly *cheap* so it may stretch the budget, but it's pretty darn good.

That is my staple bourbon and as of late we have not been able to get it down here...

Just sayin, I'm a bourbon guy, and I have tried a lot of different ones. Gotta say up front I put it in coke. Or rather I put a little coke in it. A thing I got from my other grandad. However to the point, I have found in my personal experience that some of the best bourbon is really cheap. The sticking point for me is it MUST be at least 90 proof. So, I found that two of the cheapest bourbons out there I prefer over a 1792, or a Makers Mark, is ......... Wait for it............wait for it...............
Yes lady's and gents, Ezra Brooks, and if I'm especially poor, Very Old Barton. To most swill. But to me its 90 proof, and under 25.00 for a liter.

Hahahahah ... that's sooo funny cause I'm in Canada and i picked it up in Lexington Kentucky ... much closer to you than I am.
I find it odd that rye whiskey (which is the norm here) seems kind of new to the southern market.
I have never really had a liking for rye but i absolutely love bourbon.
To my taste they are so different.
I always like Jim Beam though.
I am waiting to try Woodford and Blantons.
Next trip down I shall have them
