Scotch/whiskey of the day

I don't know about Glenmorangie as a starter scotch, but they certainly make some DFS (Damn Fine Scotch in this instance). Which of their many offerings did you have? I recently finished off a bottle of their delicious 12 year old Nectar D'Ór. And I'm waiting for a special occasion that's worthy of uncorking a bottle of their Signet that's been sitting in my liquor cabinet for several years; I'm really looking forward to that day!

I haven't gotten around to sampling Yamakazi yet, but it's on my list.

It was the original 10 year-old.

Please do post some tasting notes. I've only tasted the young Auchentoshan Classic, which I enjoy in the occasional mixed drink or "Scottish Coffee". The triple wood sounds promising!

I really liked Auchentoshan Three Wood. I'll be buying a bottle to replace my Glenfarclas 105 when that runs out, as they have a similar rich, sweetness.

Tonight's beverage wasn't whisky but tequila—Herradura Seleccion Suprema Extra Añejo Edicion Limitada. No picture; maybe I'll take one next time the bottle comes out.

Yamazaki (or 山﨑) is very nice. I've tried the 12 year old and will buy myself a bottle of something when I get around to it but, like most Japanese whisky, it's fairly expensive.

The 18 year old seems to have a fair collection of awards but at £95, I need a better reason than that (or a new job) to buy a bottle of it.

Having a little 16 year Lagavulin tonight. Nice smooth smokey taste. Have had been having sips of Scotch and various other whiskers for years. Last year I thought I would pay more attention. Sure like the peaty ones.

Tried 3 samples (limit per VA law)
Mosby's Spirit (white rye whiskey) - Very good for a un-aged spirit. A little bit sweet, smooth. I enjoyed it, but not enough to buy one at $40. As long as Viriginia Lightning and other good moonshine is selling for half the price, I don't know how I could justify this purchase.

Roundstone Rye (<2yr age) - Smooth, not enough rye character for me. You could taste the lack of age. Also sweet for a rye. Did not win me over.

Watershed Gin - Made by a non-gin drinker, this was heavily botanical and not at all like standard gin. I was not a fan.

Too bad you didn't get to try the Copper Fox rye, I would have liked to read your take it. Copper Fox also makes Wasmund's Single Malt Whisky, an unusual but highly rated American single malt that I enjoy. So I'm interested in their rye offering. The problem is that Virginia liquor stores are so freaking conservative about what they'll carry, so niche items can be really difficult to get.

In the meantime, I'm 'making do' with my Thomas H. Handy's Barrel Cut and Sazerac ryes. ;) Both make excellent, though distinctive, Sazerac cocktails, and are quite sippable, too.
