I found this hidden away and unopened in the back of the liquor cabinet tonight. I can't remember buying it, but I'm definitely not complaining...

Like winning the lottery, Eh?
Like the lottery....That would never happen to ME! :rofl2:
My lottery winnings are like my Scotch.......GONE! ;)
Man, I am famous for middle of the road stuff on ice.
I usually test something new neat. The neat has stayed with this one.
Hope it lasts through Christmas! Nah!

Tom, have you tried Balcones? They are out of Texas and produce single malt whiskers.
My Uncle was gifted this by a client. He was kind enough to share some with me yesterday at my Mom's side for Christmas, and I was happy to try some.

Going with a "starter" Bourbon tonight . . .

Trader Joe's 10 year old single malt is the dram of the night. I'd give this one a C- or D+. I might have to use it for mixing. Attachment 281151
A Rum tonight . . .

With the Jefferson Wood Experiment levels getting below the label it was time to move forward. Next…
YAYA yay!! ;) Never without… Har…
I use Jim Beam (as I’ve said) in my pecan pies and other goodies so it is always around. JB and a teaspoon of vinegar is just so Louisiana Southern style. Don’t really drink JB that much anymore. One of Stepfather’s favorites and grew up with it. Har… This led to the Kentucky style bourbon Jefferson Wood Experiment which, was like J. Beam on steroids for me. JB 13 different ways. IMHO That led me to Jim Beam Distiller's Masterpiece, their top offering. Finally something that compares to some of the high end Japanese whiskeys. Price wise comparable so no real savings dollar wise but American made. It is big and balanced. I have not tasted American whiskey with this much palate experiences. Big, multi-layered, over lapping, complex and a fair amount of balance and a nice long sweet finish. I love the sweet fruity nose too. WOW so impressed. Always in IMHO. Wink wink
100 proof but does not seem like it. The taste is so big it mellows the high alcohol content. Just enough tannin to make you smack your lips and tongue your teeth for that light fuzziness.
One small rant; just put damn thing in a simple bottle and take $50 or $75 off the price. One thing I have to say about Japanese whiskeys is they, must times put it in a simple bottle and simple presentation box. Or if you are going to offer such things offer two alternatives. Simple and Ultra-presentation. You can get this one engraved with a nice brass dew-hickey on it. Perfect but, not for me, no engraving… Har won't last long enough.
Spendy, but if you are into such things. I will buy another of these. Only been a couple along this journey worth a second imbibing.

Caol Ila 12 yr old tonight. What a wonderful Christmas present from my step-daughter.
That was the one thing I liked about the Distiller's Edition Lagavulin 16, that we bought for the Missus. No fancy packaging, just the same cardboard box any other Malt would come in. Spend the money on the spirit, not the packaging. I laugh at a recent Dalmore offering. Over $1k for the bottle, but it comes with a sterling silver stag's head on the bottle. Like, who cares?
Attachment 281448. Just cracked it open
Some rye and ginger tonight.

Love this nectar on a New Year's day
will be a fine match with the MonteAttachment 281482
I have not been on the forum for awhile. I still have some Egg Nog. I think I'm going to break out the Black Bushmills for a taste. Hope you all had a great Christmas Season and a belated "Happy New Year!"
Just back from a 7 day all inclusive trip in Dominican. Was happy to see they had many options in the whiskey department for me to choose from. Got to try J&B Rare, Cutty Sark, Jim Beam, Vat 69, and one I've had in the past, JW Black label. I enjoyed all of them.
Sounds like a good trip.
Did you score any Bay Rum? Or is that a different island?
Pre-review cheat taste tonight. LOT 40 Cask Strength. One of the more highly anticipated Canadian bottlings of 2017, and I can see why. Tune in tomorrow.
Here you go gentlemen. As I said, it's a dandy. I am going to be sipping this all night . . . I will say this once. If you see this in the LCBO, or your local retailer, BUY IT. You will not be disappointed.

Having a dram (or two) from one of my Christmas presents tonight...

It's gone, never to be seen again. No LCBO has it in stock anymore and will never be available again. I messaged both Don Livermore ( Corby's masterblender ) and Lot 40 and both said they'll never release a Cask strength again. My opinion is I think that's foolish. They're such a big company, and are capable or producing a lot of this juice. It literally flew of the shelves here, so why not make it available again????
This one's got it in all the right places..... and they even tell you what this blend is, (Click on "Recipe Details" in the link below) which is pretty neat. Best part about it, it was only $65 Canadian.

You're wrong, Idiot. The Wiser's Distillery in Windsor has many bottles being sold in their store. About the only place you can buy it anymore though.
