Thanked: 36Peated version. I heard Springbank get their peat from a different source to nearly all the other distilleries and it has a slightly different taste so I thought it'd be worth a go. I might get the unpeated next month, but I've also had my eye on Longrow and it's a while since I had the standard 10 year old Laphroaig. I kind of miss it. Even longer since I had Lagavullin. Maybe I'll go for a sweet speyside for something different. Choosing whisky is very difficult at times.

Thanked: 36The one I'd really like is Aberlour Abunagh, but it's 60.3% which makes it illegal here in Norway. Anything over 60% is considered a narcotic.

Ah, that's a shame!
My next purchases will be an auchentoshan three wood and either a springbank (12 year old, maybe) or possibly an islay -- Caol ila 12 year old was nice.
I still want a more expensive Ardbeg but don't really have the money for it at the moment.

Thanked: 36If you're saving for one of the higher end ardbeg's I'd go for uigeadail. Seriously, I can't recommend it highly enough and I reckon it's well worth saving for. I'm planning to pick up another bottle next time I travel, it's about 80 quid in the government alcohol outlet here.

I would most likely buy the uigeadail - I was very impressed when I tried it last. I also really liked the corryvreckan but the two are too similar for me to justify the extra price.

MY FIRST BLENDED MALT IN YEARS
I'm sipping a dram of Compass Box Spice Tree, with a few drops of Fiji spring water. Having never tried this type of blend before, I have no reference to compare it to. But one thing is certain: my first impressions are extremely favorable! I have to agree with the folks at Master of Malt, this is very good:
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose: Fragrant and aromatic with notes of dried herbs, spices, oak and vanilla. Has a bourbon note to it and a peppery tang.
Palate: Gingernut biscuits, toffee spices, peppery, herbal, vanilla, very rich and peppery.
Finish: Very spicy, big and rich.
This a lighter malt, with no smoke to speak of. It's very easy to drink, and I especially like the peppery notes and the spicy finish.

Thanked: 36That looks very interesting. Personally I think there is huge potential for good blended whisky if they were just to blend good whisky with other good whisky.
I had a drop of Yamazaki 12 yo today and started a blog for tasting notes.
