The method I saw used burning yarn, wrapped around the bottle, to heat the glass. After the yarn is burnt the glass is put in an ice bath. The glass should break cleanly where the yarn was wrapped around the bottle. With a thicker beer bottle this process might need to be done several times. I am worried a whiskey bottle would be too thick for this to work.
Tonight it is a dram of Highland Park 12.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.
