great stuff!
After reading most of this I bought a bottle of the stuff. GREAT!!! A subdued, sweet smell that I can't get enough of. The witch hazel, which I use after every shave anyway, is a nice base for an aftershave. It also has a little alcolhol, but very little burn. Clubman BR is very strong on the cloves or something - a smell you either love, hate, or sort of let grow on you, with a bite to kill.
But this stuff is just plain nice and pleasant.

Hey, thanks for sharing guys. I've heard of Bay Rum but can't say as I've ever smelled it (who knows, maybe if I ran across some I'd go "OH! That's Bay Rum!"), but I didn't know that I wanted to spend $15 or more on a big bottle of the stuff from the local pharmacy and find out I hated it. Ogallala's sample pack is right up my ally...and Sage & Cedar??? Those are two of my ALL time favorite scents...reminds me of where I grew up.
Now...how can I convince the wife we need to order some more shave stuff, without her thinking it's more shave stuff? Hmm.

Thanked: 240This is my favorite aftershave for bay rum. I went overboard when I first ordered and got two of the largest glass bottles lime&pepercorn and sandalwood, the sample pack, a bottle of cologne and the shave soap sample everything was great except the shave soap which I was not able to get to work great for me. The sage and cedar was thrown in as a sample because at the time it was a new scent and it is my favorite, I just wish I could justify buying a huge bottle of the sage and cedar.

Jim, they have a $1.00 sample pack bottle of the stuff to try out. They also have a soap sampler. I got the sample pack and the soap, but I have to admit, I find the Van Der Hagen (Wal Mart) 1.58 bar with Aloe Vera and Shea Butter more to my face's liking. The Ogallala soap are more tallow based, and I love the fragrance. Not too keen over the lime and peppercorn as it gets a bit hot on my face when shaving. .... spicy.

I saw the dollar bottle offer. Thought about it, but for the price of shipping (almost $5) I'd just as soon fill that box up with a variety pack and whatever goodies they throw in (they explicitly state, no goodies with the $1 bottles). I like the cobalt decanters...and it would fit in with the way the WIFE wants to decorate the bathroom (30's era). I'll be working my angles!
I have a hard time imagining peppercorn as a good feeling on the face. I use cracked pepper corns as part of my dry rub for smoking beef, but I hate to have one stuck between my teeth. Biting in to just a peppercorn is not pleasant. Rubbing one on your face, as you scrape across it with a razor just sounds like a recipe for discomfort. Maybe in the dead of winter though, that scent mixture would warm/wake you up!

The first bar of Ogallala BR soap arrived at my house today along with some other nifty samples. My oldest son (23) is taking an interest in wet shaving now and he immediately gravitated to the bay rum. The first thing he said was "Christmas!" I took a sniff and it smells just like a drink I make at Christmas using orange juice, cinnamon and cloves. Thankfully the drink doesn't lather or taste like soap.

For those of you who would like to give the soap a little boost add a squirt of Kiss My Face shave cream to your lather. You can thank me later.
I love all Ogallala products including the balm (great for blocking smells). All of the scents are great.

Thanked: 1160I'm a fan.......Love how the Witch Hazel makes my skin feel.At first I was completely unimpressed.I thought it was weak and smelled like Egg Nog.Then It grew on me and now I can't get enough of the stuff. I rather like the Limes and Peppercorns m'self. It may not be for everybody, but that's okay too. Good thread !
