Thanked: 0I've been wanting to try this Bay Rum for a while but it's rather expensive to have it shipped to Canada.

I am one of the rare ones that didnt care for the scent at all of this bay rum.. however if I were you I would find a sample somewhere and give it a try, just because I didnt like it doesnt mean it wont be one of your faves.

Their Bay Rum (Ogallala) is a proprietary formula, but there are some reciepies I found on the interent as it is a formula of decades old, and has no patent. His primary carrier is Witch Hazel and the low alcohol content, along with 11 different herbs and spices....wait.. I'm thinking of the Colonel. LOL

I can't say enough good things about the stuff. My advice is to skip the $15 sample pack. For only about $10 more you can gt a full bottle (trust me, you'll like it. I'll take it off your hands if you don't) and as has been said previously, they throw in a few samples anyway.

Ogallala Bay Rum is proving very popular in Australia, I think it is one of the top scents available, It is amazing how each scent varies, the wood ones really mellow it out, but I was super suprised how much I like the lime & peppercorn!
Maybe it's just me but the scent does not seem to last for ages like the "big brand" aftershaves/EDT/perfumes, I guess it is about the long lasting chemicals they use.

I've got the Ogallala Bay Rum with Sandelwood in the larger blue bottle. I can see the oils in it floating around. Says to shake well before using. When it was down a bit, I added about 3 drops of dish soap, some Ethyl Alcohol (EtOH) and a little bit of straight witch hazel. Now a shake makes the mixture cloudy, and that means it is emulsified, or more dispersed, in the liquid. Ogallala Bay rum consists of oils in a witch hazel base or carrier, Bay oil, oil of Clove Buds, Rosemary, Ginger, Orange extracts, Cinnamon, and leaf of Wintergreen. So, yes, it's going to smell like some concotion that reminds one of Christmas.
I think he needs to add an emulisifier to this main batch before bottling. It might improve the quality from bottle to bottle, as my small plastic samples bottles seem a bit different than the larger blue bottle I got. I liked the Bay Rum and Sandlewood in the small sample bottles better than I did in the large bottle. What I wish I had now was the Sage and Bay Rum. That really smells nice!
John Marquis comes from where I grew up. I met my wife at Ogallala, NE. I have relatives living in Ogallala, and it was the favored place to shop for us living in Oshkosh, NE just up the road some 30 miles, for such things as groceries, and discount stores there in Ogallala. One of those things that started out in the garage and then..... who knew!~~ Vern ~~

Thanked: 0Ogalla Bay Rum
I just wanted to add my comments to the list. It is a great product and I am enjoying it very much. I too am relatively new to SR Shaving. When in a hurry, I resort to my DE but always follow-up with the Bay Rum. The product is well worth the price and yes, they did add so really great sample bottles. I will purchase from them again. The gentlemen who shipped it to me was very nice and thanked me for my order. The first time I heard about the town of Ogalla was, of course, in the series "Lonesome Dove."
Happy New Year to Everyone!
