I started experimenting with baking soda as a scrub last night. Water + baking soda is OK. I'm now looking into baking soda + liquid soap. Currently I'm using some Dr Brown's liquid soap. I'm still working on getting the right mix. I want a very thick paste with a good abrasive effect.

After getting involved with this post, I got to thinking about the face scrub I use. Last night I started looking for inexpensive and effective face scrubs to buy. I then starting thinking about homemade scrubs, since I like to make my own stuff at times. I saw baking soda scrubs listed in many DIY sites. A lot of the sites mentioned using lemon juice, but a user commented that she uses liquid soap, so I went down that route.

Just a thin paste, but the consistency is really whatever you like.

Good idea never thought to combine baking soda and liquid soap. I've thought about mixing it with a melt and pour soap

And I think GOJO leaves a rather pleasant orange scent to boot

They do exfoliate well though. But are better used on tougher skins like on your back. I usually use a terry cloth washing glove though. If you don't use fabric conditioner the terry cloth gets a bit harder and does a terrific job.
