I had the same thought. I have not tried any of the Proraso pre/post product but Noxema smells just like Proraso green to me.

As I have stated, Noxema is a great pre-shave prep.

Am I the only person that opens the lid and submerges my Proraso in the hot water? It doesn't seem to loosen or contaminate the water and when it's slightly warm/wet it rubs in really nicely, plus it doesn't give the cold feeling against the face you've just spent minutes heating up.
I also put hot water in my Proraso tub, although I've never used the white, only green. Along with the nice feeling on the face, I find that it also lathers up much better.

All of these "+1 Noxema" posts instead of Proraso Green...

What about us Proraso White users?

I really like the pre-shave. It makes my face feel great. I could stop there, as that's all I really need to justify having it. But I will add that I "perceive" that it hardens my whiskers giving me a closer shave. That's a bonus.

I don't use it religiously, but I am always glad when I do use it. It blends well with their shaving cream.

    Give it a try.

i had a tub of green (i think) and used it pre and post for a while, it certainlt soothed my skin a bit, but made me smell like vicks vap-o-rub. i subsequently started using a vitamin e cream pre and post which worked very well, helped my skin to heal and smelled much less, now i dont use anything pre or post except a bit of aftershave.

I have the white Proraso pre/post cream. I also got the Proraso menthol cream. When I want a menthol type shave I use both together. I like them. I also use Castle Forbes pre-shave. I like them both. But, I'm new to straight razor shaving and any pre-shave routine. My shaving technique and experience are still new and I can't say one is better. In fact sometimes I don't use a pre-shave at all. I don't see a huge difference with no pre-shave. I have questions about pre-shaves that I've been meaning to ask in a new thread if I can't get answers in threads already created. The only thing I really like about the Proraso pre-shave is the menthol fragrance. It does have a very cooling feeling also. That's nice. But I don't know if it improves the shave any better than other pre-shaves.

The way to use Proraso face cream:

Pre shave - apply to wet face

Post Shave - apply to face after AS splash starts to evaporate. I recommend Bay Rum as these two combine perfectly!

To the post that said it is equal to Noxema, regarding consistency, I would agree. Regarding the sensation and the experience, I like the Proraso much better. Regarding effectiveness in smoothing the shave and reducing irritation, I would rank them equally. I usually put a coat of Noxema on a damp face before entering the shower, using it liberally because it is pretty cheap. Right before I make the lather, I apply the Proraso and enjoy the sensations. I apply the lather directly on top of it.

I'm not sure it is any better than without it, because I have never had a straight shave without it, but I certainly enjoy the Proraso and do not want to shave without it. In another forum many were commenting on the benefits of Prosaso/Noxema for reducing irritation for those that are prone to it.

In my limited experience I gotta say I like the Proraso menthol pre-shave more than any other pre-shave I've tried. I just got a white jar of Proraso for sensitive skin. I used it once and while I'm sure it does as good as anything else it doesn't have the menthol chilling feeling. I really like that and I may be a Proraso menthol pre-shave guy forever. As a post-shave I don't care for it because you need to massage it in more than the Neutrogena post-shave cream I got at Wal Mart. I really like that as far as making my skin feel good. Castle Forbes is a good pre-shave but it also doesn't have the menthol. Using the Proraso menthol soap along with the pre-shave makes for a nice, cool menthol shave. It's like the commercial of someone getting a chilly breeze when they bite a peppermint candy. Also leaves the bathroom with a cool, fresh fragrance. Wife even noticed it one day and commented how nice the bathroom smelled. She usually has smellygood stuff in there so for her to mention it says a lot I think. The only thing I'm having trouble with for a menthol Proraso shave is finding the right combination of water/soap for a good lather. It is usually thicker on my face than I like. Thicker to the point it doesn't rinse off my razor easily under running hot water. In addition to how the lather feels I've come to judge the texture by how it rinses off the razor. All of the lather should rinse off immediately for me to be happy. I think I need more water. So I'm very happy with all the Proraso products I've tried (which is few). I even bought a glass bowl with lid for my Proraso soap. The jars or bowls most soaps come it are too small I think. I get soap all over the outside of the bowl when applying it to the brush. Then it gets on the counter, the walls, floor, ceiling, etc. I got a 4 puck soap holder and use it for the Mitchell's wool fat soap. Love that thing. Two pucks in there and NO MESS. Oops, getting off subject.

Having just bought a tub of Noxema and I can categorically state it smells nothing like Proraso, more like toilet cleaner!!
I'll try it pre shave but not convinced I'll definitely not use it post shave as I'll need to banish the odour.
