This is very interesting, because in my limited experience the Proraso white line and red line are the only products I have used, so I was curious about the well renowned British products. In my opinion the red pre/post shave are perfect in fresh climate because of the warm sandal scent while I think the white with its freshness is perfect with higher temperature. I don't know the prices overseas but here you can buy it at the super market or on the web with just a few bucks.

Living in Italy you should have easy access to Saponifico Varesima.
They make great products including soaps, aftershaves and brushes. If you don't care where you are, you are not lost.

I, at one time used Proraso green as a pre & post shave. One day several years ago I tried this Tea Tree moisturizer out of curiosity as to how it might work as a pre shave product. To my surprise it worked great and since this is all I use as a pre shave It's water soluble and is very slick. I use the Proraso as a only a post shave now.

Aloha!
I've been in this wet shaving game a long time as most of you gents have. I find that Proraso in gerneral is a high quality product line at a fair price for what you get in return. I have actually had peripheral contact with Stefania Martelli, the great-granddaughter of the founder of Proraso, and I know she is focused, competent and dedicated to making her brand one of the best in the world. BTW, I have no financial or investment interest in Proraso. I just like their products.
As for Proraso Pre-Shave, I have a glass container in my shaving den along with a dozen or so other Proraso shaving products. I use it whenever I do a Proraso shave. I tend to do theme shaves, and don't mix product lines. I am sure there are other products (one springs to mind that was mentioned in this thread) that are less expansive, and many feel these competitive products are just as good, but I stick with Proraso.

Thanked: 0I believe the pre shave should be left on and not rinsed off as a poster has said, keep it on and lather over it.

I would think application of your soap over the pre shave would gum up your soap, it like noxema does not lather, so now you have contaminated an otherwise good lather. But there are no rules, I have been using noxema for many years now (started with proraso pre shave till found out noxema was 5 times cheaper and the same thing ) and to this date rinsing it off after works really well. I apply it before I brush my teeth and getting my sink ready, then into the shower. Voila I’m ready

Thanked: 104I use the stuff, but I dont really see much difference. I got two jars of it for Christmas, and a bottle of the after shave balm. It smells nice, but I am not sure if it really does anything.

Funny, I used it last night as a pre-shave. Timing. I haven't used it in a while. I find that it helps but isn't critical. Like a lot of others, I will use noxzema to wash and prep, but rinsing before shaving.
I really like the proraso pre/post as an aftershave. When this jar is done, i'll be getting another."But you're not as confused as him are you. I mean, it's not your job to be as confused as Nigel. "

Thanked: 0I use Proraso pre-save every time before lathering. I think it makes a difference, as it prepares my skin for the lather & shaving.
