Well, there's a major independent review of their product line out there: Straight Razor Magazine: Review: Green Mountain Soap shave soap:

We hesitate to highlight the “all-natural” characteristics, because that might imply a conditional recommendation. Rather, Green Mountain Soap is an excellent shaving product that additionally contains no artificial components to irritate the skin. The skin care from the soap is also remarkable, whether the soap is all-natural or not. Many lathering products are heavily perfumed and make thick lather (regardless of their shave performance); new users may note the difference between GMS and these lathers. But we consider Green Mountain’s soap to be in a different league from popular soaps like Tabac, Williams, or Mitchell’s Wool Fat. We recommend the soap. We also recommend experimenting with it for a week of shaving to become accustomed to its ‘thirsty’ lather, as once will probably not be enough.
My feelings exactly. As a bonus, the people who make Green Mountain Soap don't make a fuss about their products, they just deliver quality. Unlike, say, certain "artisan" soap makers who are very noisy but deliver mediocre products.

In short, I really quite like Green Mountain Soaps. Good stuff, and great value for money!

The old-time barber I used to go to as a kid in the country, used a hot-cream lather machine. I would like to use one of those to shave with. Are there any pucks that are creams and not made from soap. I've had very good luck with my Barbasol shot into my scuttle and using a shaving brush and a little Cremo Cream, I can get a really nice shave. What an inexpensive way to go. No need to fuss over which boutique soap to use. Save your money for buying another antique scuttle and/or straight razor for your collection. I have nearly 20 razors now. I'm not going to quit buying them, either! I need an antique brush-soaking scuttle, the kind with the opening on the bottom and the scraping area above with the 3 or 4 holes. I think that is what they are.

That's your experience. MY experience has shown that Barbasol works well with my straight razors. Adding the slickness of a little Cremo Cream works great with it and Barbasol is very cost effective, unlike the boutique soaps that you all insist on dumping lots of money into. It's made from the same stuff the hot cream lather machines made that you used to see in barber shops all over the country. 'Nuff said!

Out of morbid curiosity, how exactly did this escalate from a discussion of the performance of Green Mountain Soap into you guys sharing some manly man moments with faeces and some of the most plebeian artisan accoutrements out there?

To re-iterate: Green Mountain Soap is an outstanding product, both in terms of price and performance.

And if you want my honest opinion about why you hear so little from them, it's because the owners have upright morals: no shilling, not rigged reviews. Also, no girlie jars, feminine scents, or funky gimmicks.

Green Mountain Soaps are for people who want an honest product. No hype, no fuss, just pure performance.

Unless you have something substantial to contribute with regards to these products, may I humbly suggest that you share your manly man moments somewhere else?

    Used it for 30 yrs. W/ str8s.
    With no cremo cream.
Still like the cheaper soaps like VDH LUXURY
    WILLIAMS MUG
better than, like you said, high end soaps.
Green mountain soaps are fantastic for their price.
I'll never ever return to the goo in the can though.

And you are allowed to have your opinion as well.

    Thanks

If you are a female, then don't tell us how and when to talk "manly man", ok? No man complains about "femaly female" talk.

So, Outback and WILDMAN1, how exactly do Green Mountain Soaps compare to your favourite products? I'm sure an in depth review would be appreciated by many. Thanks in advance.

The "goo" as you negatively refer to it, is what barbers used successfully for decades with great success, long before this boutique crap that so-called "men" like to use. I am not putting down the higher end stuff. Spend more money on something if you need to or want to. I take a more frugal and successful approach to my shaving equipment. I don't need a $100. razor, so I don't buy them. I might for my collection, but not because I need it to shave with. I'll try this Green Mountain stuff out and see how it does. My combination, so far, works great with my straight razors. I'm all-in as far as shaving cream, for less than $9.00 ( the can of Barbasol and the Creamo Cream). The Cremo is about $7.+ and the can of Barbasol is about $1.-$1.50. No need to buy a more expensive product. If you want a scent, add it yourself. I may buy a little bottle of lavender or sandlewood and add a few drops into my scuttle. I'm not a frilly metro-sexual. I am a basic kind of person that does splurge on occasions. Happy shaving everyone!

So you are commenting on a product you have never even tried. Yet you are making wild assumptions about its efficiency. Brilliant.

Here is a pro tip for you: your comparison to creams is entirely misleading, because Green Mountain Soap (like any other quality soap) is far more efficient than the creams you are advertising. So much so that your creams will become expensive quickly.

Just for the record, if Lynn thinks a product is good, chances are it is. Here you go.
