Proraso pre shave
I would be interested in people's views on this, does it help or is it just another way of getting money from my account to theirs

I find that when I use the pre shave together with the Proraso shaving cream I end up getting really smooth and BBS shaves. It does the trick for me, especially with longer growth. Obviously, best way to know is to try it at least once...won't break the bank. In my view, much better than pre shave oils.

Thanked: 171Very helpful early on in one's shaving career.
But when sufficiently prepping the beard with hot water and soap, and with improved pre-shave and shaving techniques the benefit diminishes.

I find this to be accurate for me as well. I used it often when starting with DE razors and after time as my technique improved the results were not as noticeable.
Now that I'm starting a new approach to shaving with straights I find the product once again provides benefit.

Agree with the general consensus that Proraso makes a more than satisfactory pre-shave.
However, both the regular/green and the sensitive/white are heavy on menthol - not to my liking. My father was an engineer. He used to tell me that sharpening a straight razor is like trying to build a ladder to the moon out of a roll of aluminum foil.

Thanked: 1I don't know if I would go so far as to say Noxema smells like toilet cleaner, but it certainly does not smell like Proraso. I prefer the Proraso in every aspect except for price.
Once your honing and shaving techniques are mastered, I suspect you can get good results from Life Boy rubbed on your beard with your hands. But I do not think that this replaces a fine shaving soap, a fine badger or boar brush or a fine ceramic scuttle to keep the lather warm. Some things I will continue to do because they are pleasant, Proraso pre-shave is among them. But for now as I am a rookie, if this practice helps me to lessen irritation due to my poor shaving technique, then that is a bonus as well.

Thanked: 23Good shaving technique would probably make up for a lack of good pre-shave or better soaps I suppose. I've only been at this for a year and when my technique is better I'm going to try Lava soap as a pre-shave and soap both.
Well, that may be a bit on the ROUGH side.

I used the stuff when I started, then stopped using it figuring I didn't really need it.
Now, I absolutely use it, the one thing it brings to the table for me is a consistent shave experience.
Beard prep is vital to a good, close and comfortable shave, and beard hydration is a key factor in my opinion, and since I've been using the Proraso again, my shave have been closer and more comfortable, as as I mentioned, has become more consistent, regardless of the type of razor I use.
I have both, the Green and the White pre-shaves, both are excellent.
