I've never been a fan of MWF. The lather is too thin for my tastes, and it dries out really quickly on my face. But I had two pucks and wanted to give it the college try. Still not my favorite, but two things helped.

    • Like others here, while I shower, I have some hot water on the soap in the mug and my brush, soaked with hot water, in there too.
    • I also face-lather, which seems to work a little better than building the lather in the mug
    • Something I have NOT heard-I squeeze a little of my wife's Shea Butter onto my brush before l start lathering. It seems to give the MWF a little more staying power and a little more cushion or body.

Still not my favorite, but with these steps it works okay.

You really need to make sure you load enough on your brush. I have crappy water and still manage to get nice thick lather out of MWF.

Plus it leaves your skin feeling very soft.

+1 on the loading and the Mantic video contained the tip to dip the ends of the brush in water to help the face lathering. Both of these worked to make MWF a top choice for me.

This has been a helpful thread for me, because I have had the MWF for a while and enjoyed it, but never got the lather that I truly desired. After reading a few tips from those of you who use it regularly, I get a MUCH better result! Great stuff! It's the only shaving soap that I use, actually, otherwise I stick with the Santa Maria Novella Shaving Cream. Pricey, but unbelievable!

    Thanks for the tips guys!

Default Sorry, but i'll pass on the Wool Fat.

One of the enjoyments I get from Straight Razor shaving are the soaps. But, unfortunately, I have never had a decent shave with wool fat. It wont go waste though, my wife uses it to shave her legs.

    I love soaps too!

Unfortunately MWF doesn't work for my face either. Think the lanolin is a bit too much for my skin. But there are plenty of others available to try out there!!

I use MWF soap as part of my rotation and bowl lather getting a good lather with it. The method I use it to sink the soap, dish and all, in hot water for a few seconds then lather away. Works every time for me.

    Default Mitchell's Wool Fat

It took me some tries, but now I get consistent good lather from MWF. I use face lather, simpler for the soap to give consistent lather. I soften the soap in warm (not hot) water, come with a well shaken brush and load for about 1 minute. Then as I face lather, soak the tips in water and work the lather up.
MWF is a good soap but is one of those soaps I'll not be buying again. The scent doesn't do much for me and the performance is not exceptional like others I have tried. For me, Tabac, has better performance all around. Also Jabonman soaps from Spain have the performance of the fat (in my opinion a little better) with some mind altering scents. However I'll be trying some of the suggestions I read here with the fat, specially the cream mixing. Double O

I get a killer lather in my scuttle with MWF. I used up a whole puck figuring out how to do it...I wont go into details, because it seems everyone has a different method, but the time spent learning was well worth it.
