Thanked: 0Mitchell's Wool Fat
Up until now I have been using Proraso cream with a scuttle but have just bought some Mitchell's Wool Fat to try. I have found that it seems to work better face-lathering than using the scuttle but so far have not achieved as good a result as with Proraso; the lather does not hold for the length of the shave.
I would be interested to hear how other people use MWF and for any tips from regular users.

I would stick with face lathering with the MWF,thats where it shines the best for sure. Trying to whip it up in a scuttle is a waste of time with poor results IMO. But i keep it in my rotation cuz its worthy!!!!!!

Mitchell's Wool Fat
Hello, Christopher:
I must agree with my friend Nessmuck that Mitchell's Wool Fat works best with face-lathering. As a rule, I make lather in the scuttle. With Mitchell's Wool Fat, however, I go directly to the face and use the scuttle to keep the brush warm. Mitchell's Wool Fat is top shelf stuff and I have kept it in my rotation for many years.
Regards,
Obie

Thanked: 1195MWF is one of the finest soaps I`ve come across. I`ve heard many face lather with it, but I`ve had good luck bowl lathering too. One trick I`ve learned is to put about a tablespoon of water on top of the puck to soften it while having a shower. After my shower I dump the water off the soap into my lather bowl, load up my brush and then make lather using the soapy water. This really helps to bring out a rich, lasting lather from MWF. Try it and see if it works for you.

I have been doing the same thing, putting a dollop of water on top of the MWF before I lather. I didn't think of dumping the water in the lather bowl however, but wasted it down the drain. Thanks for the tip Ryan.
I particularly like to use MWF in conjunction with scented creams. I personally cannot detect an aroma from the wool fat so it doesn't clash with the aroma of whatever cream I'm combining it with. Alone or with cream it is a favorite of mine.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I agree, excellent soap. It helps to use a stiff brush, like boar bristle, to cut into the soap and face lather as mentioned. I've also had good luck grating it to fit a mug and then covering it with hot water to fuse it back together into a solid puck.

I find it requires more water than most other soap to produce a good lather. I pretty much face lather all the time anyway but it does make a thick rich lather. Maybe not the best stuff in the world but definitely up there on the scale.
