Thread: Who is using glycerin?

I started using 100% vegetable glycerin a week ago and love it. I had a tough time finding it, though; none of the local pharmacies had it, so I had to buy it at drugstore.com. The amount I add depends on the brand of soap or cream that I use.
I melted my regular shave soap in the microwave, added a teaspoon of glycerin, mixed, then pressed the soap back into the mug. It now provides me with a better, slicker lather. Although, I think that I could probably use another teaspoon in there.
For cheap creams, like Arko, I use 4 drops of glycerin in the bowl before lathering. The lather comes out much better.

So, I have a big bottle of mineral oil I got from the drugstore, has anyone tried using mineral oil for a lather superizer?

Frankly, I would not use any mineral oil for anything getting in contact with my skin. Glycerin does a perfect job if you are looking for a lather superizer.

Thanked: 580Awesome idea, put 4 drops in my Cella, usually i have lather on my face, shirt, ceiling, floor, mirror, walls, up my nose, in my ears, and on anyone within 15 feet of me. Tonight it stuck like the proverbial to a blanket. Gonna try it in some other soaps that i have parked up due to poor performance. I see the Col Conk soaps are glycerin based, never tried one, what are they like? Anyone here tried them?

Thanked: 116Just wanted to say thanks to the OP for bringing this topic to light. Went to Shoppers Drug Mart last night and picked up some glycerin along with a styptic pencil. I've tried olive oil and grapeseed oil in my lather and appreciated their performance enhancing properties. However... Glycerin is like the Human Growth Hormone of the 'additive' world as far as I'm concerned. I shave AGT almost every day as shaving is a requirement in the RCAF and after my first shave with the stuff I doubt I'll ever stop using it. Perhaps if I were using a glycerin based soap there wouldn't be a need for it but I haven't the funds for any soaps right now.

Glycerin + His Majesty the Olive Oil = incredible super uber lather. And only for few cents per shaving.
I had the idea of adding olive oil in my lather not only because it is the king of oils here in Umbria, Italy but also because it was what our ancestors used as an after shave. Moreover, olive oil is great for the skin, something Italians knew since the beginning of humanity.

Thanked: 8I now use 4 drops of glycerin as part of each morning's shave. It's become a great addition.
