Better technique will mean less nicks, cuts, razor burn or microcuts (ones you don't notice), so the alcohol won't burn as much if your technique is good. Some guys get a little burn no matter what, it depends. This aftershave has a good bit of alcohol, so it burns a bit more. When you're just starting out, you can usually expect just about any alcohol-based aftershave to burn.

I have never heard that about the burn being relative to skill. Makes sense I guess. Maybe that is why I have grown to love the burn of an alcohol AS. I have recently decided that I prefer the alcohol verse the balm AS's specifically because I've grown to enjoy that refreshing burning sensation.

Personally, I like the Classic Vanilla best. I think if you have bad razor burn it does sting more, but nothing that lasts more than a few seconds.

On another note - What's everyone's favorite scent? I just tried Lilac Vegetal and it reminded me of a urinal....

    Default Clubman Pinaud Aftershave

    My dear Paul,

Your imaginative reference to Pinaud's Lilac Vegetable gave me a chuckle. I used to have that in my aftershave stash until my wife and two daughters all said it reminded them of public toilets.

Too bad, because I had a special fondness for Lilac Vegetable: it always reminded me of my opera-singing barber of long ago.

    Thanks for the chuckle.

    Regards,

    Obie

    Ha! You're welcome.

I had picked it up one day without trying it beforehand, and immediately was reminded of a public bathroom. My brother picked up on the familiar scent but my wife couldn't quite place it. She did veto it, however.

i think that i have all of the pinaud/clubman aftershaves, lime sec, citrus lime, special reserve, musk, classic, vanilla, bay rum and all are great, at least i like them....oh yeah, i do have a bottle of the lilac vegetal and i have found out if you poor some on a rag and hang it around your garden, you will not have trouble with deers and coons eating up your veggies.. as far as wearing the lilac, i will leave that for others to do...

    Default Clubman Pinaud

I like the old standard aftershaves since that's the generation I'm from. Old Spice, Mennon, Aqua Velva, Bay Rum and in particular the original Clubman. Like others have said, it contains alcohol so there is going to be some tingle (personally I don't call it a burning feeling) that lasts for a second. But that is followed by a very cool refreshing sensation, similar to Mennon, and that great lingering scent. So, don't worry. You're not going to reenact the scene from "Home Alone". For 6 or 7 bucks give it a try.

I've used most of the Pinaud products and can vouch for their quality.

Personally, the Clubman, Bay Rum (+1,000,000 on this stuff), Vanilla and Musk and Lilac Vegetal are the best.

This stuff hasn't been a staple in barber shops 'round the country for 'nuthin.

Great stuff at a great price. You can buy nearly the entire line-up at Atlanta Barber Supply.

Worth a shot, if there ever was one...

I used Brut and English Leather for awhile back in the 60's. I found both a little overwhelming and have opted for the more subtle fragrances since then. I had purchased the colognes and you can't splash them on after a shave like you can an AS. That is unless you want people to know you're coming long before they see you and long after you're gone. But the main thing to remember is that it doesn't matter what I or others think, you're the only one you have to please.
