Clubman Pinaud aftershave
Has anybody used this aftershave?
I heard its nice, but I'm leery about using anything with alcohol. It brings to mind a line from the Princess Bride: "why don't you just give me a paper cut and pour lemon juice in it!" Or pouring it on your face after shaving.
But my barber used it once and it smelled great. I've just never used it on my face before.
Does it burn bad? Or is it best to use a balm?

Just used some tonight. I personally like the scent. It smells kinda like baby powder but with a hint of sweet oak and musk. The scent lasts for a long time and when you put some on, everyone knows what you just did...I didn't tell anyone in the house, but within seconds the SWMBO made a comment to the effect of, 'that isn't bay rum, you better not have bought another aftershave!!!'
Does it burn? hell ya! But its a test of your shaving skills...if you can go easy on your shave, it will not burn. If you punish your face with your razor, your Pinaud will most certainly punish you for your actions!

It has a lot of alcohol if that's what you're asking. Like red said, it's a test of your shaving skills. It's also all a matter of personal preference. Some guys use one or the other; some guys use both. It's up to you.

Yes.
But it's a good burn.

salazach,
As the previous posts note, yes it does burn somewhat because it does contain a fair amount of alcohol. Try rubbing a moistened block of alum over your face after shaving before applying your aftershave. It will close your pores and reduce the burn. Or you can just opt to apply aftershave balm and forget the aftershave altogether. To each his/her own.
The original Pinaud Clubman is a cheaper barbershop version of Canoe aftershave/cologne which was popular in the 1960s. The scent is real nice, in a masculine way, at a very reasonable price. You can get a bottle in any local drugstore.Last edited by jhenry; 01-05-2010 at 03:14 PM.

Thanked: 6I, for one, happen to like Clubman. It reminds me of all the barber shops that I have been in, starting when I was a kid.

I have several Bayrum scent aftershaves and Clubman is one of them, personally I love the Clubman for what it is. It is it's own blend of bayrum, strong scent heavy with the clove. It does burn a little, but it's a good burn, and will let you know how good your shaving technique is. Another good thing is it's cheap and easy to find. For the price I would pick some up and give it a try.

Thanked: 155One of my primary go to aftershaves. Does it burn; normally just a little, but more if you have a nick or cut. I always rinse with cold water followed by a liberal application of witch hazle before splashing on the AS, and this tends to mitigate the burn somewhat.
