    Hi,

I'm french-canadian too. I totally agree with you Glen.

It's true for words in general but I feel there's no major differences of pronunciation for this particular word between the different accents of Northern, Southern France and Québec.

As it may be true it is still a possibility. All I was saying is some words are pronounce differently depending on where you at. This might not be one of them but then again it may. I do not know the French language that well but I am part French.

I never took French in High School, and I'm from New Yawk, so it's obviously pronounced Pin-awd...

    Indubitably!

My Dad was in the first battalion of the Sea Bees in WWII and worked with a guy who became a good buddy - Callahan by name. He was from New York and Dad said until he knew him for a while he couldn't figure out why, if he cut his finger it was a saw and the tool he cut himself with was a sore. Then he remembered that Callahan was from New York.

That's a bit arrogant. If it's a French word, it should be pronounced as the French would say it. Pee-NO it is. I agree it sounds terrible to someone who speaks one of the many dialects of the queens english, but an effort should be made to show respect to a words origins.
I admit this is a touchy subject for me, as I'm a lover of language and word origins. I even want to tell the wife to pronounce our childrens names properly, everytime she calls them. She has this strange idea that just because their names are Welsh, doesn't mean she can't pronounce them in typical Australian fashion. Damn the women .

Don't go pickin' on the Welsh!

My middle name is Huw, the Welsh Hugh, and pronounced completely differently!
