    Default 6/8 wostenholm pipe razor

here is a simple pipe razor... there is some pitting left because to rid all of it the etchings would be gone

    Default Pipe

This is a pipe I restored recently. I added the middle pin. I did the spacer and middle pins in bullseye then did a matching adjustable pivot pin. I find it fascinating that the pipe trademark started in 1684.

I stopped by Dad's house tonight to borrow the dremel for some polishing (couldn't find it) and he had a razor laid out for me. I think this was either his dad's or granddad's. He couldn't remember. I think I'll be contacting Ken about fixing this one up. The lettering smear is my picture taking skills it is actually pretty crisp. The scales are in great shape and the spine has almost no hone wear. I think it could be cleaned up quite nicely. I hope Ken can work with the nick.

    Default Grandad's razor

I have the same razor purchased on ebay. It also had no hone wear and chips just like that on the blade. I taped the spine and using a washboard type motion ( equal number of laps on each side) on a 220 grit then a 1000 grit Norton until the blade was clear of the chips. I did need to frequently change the tape as it wore down. Once the blade was clear, i switched to the Norton 4k and established a bevel. I then moved up to the 8K for a few laps until it passed the HHT. I then moved to the 12k to polish and then the leather strop.
From what you can see from the photo, it is clean and pretty. This blade can hone up fantastically sharp. It also shaves wonderfully. I have three Wostenholm & Son razors- 2 Pipes and one IXL. To me, they are fantastic.

Here's an older IXL I picked up on Ebay and have been working on. The scales were in pretty good shape except for the crack at the front-side lower (toe end) pin, and I thought since the razor was so old I'd try and keep it in one piece. I only had 1 before shot of the blade, but the other side was very similar. I just wish I would have taken the before shot before I wire-wheeled the actual rust off, since it would represent more clearly that it took a _lot_ of work to clean it up. There's still some very minor traces of pitting, but this is going to be a shaving, not showing, blade so I'm okay with that.

come on gentlemen step right up, step right up. A troubling situation has arrived in the razor club and that is the use of thumbnail pictures. I know that some of you old timers still remember when the razor clubs were a thing of beauty! with large glossy pictures of razors and we viewed until our hearts content. but those days are through it would seem. I beseech all the members of the razor clubs to take the poll in the general section and vote to restore large pictures to our beloved razor clubs. It is up to us gent and together we can restore these clubs to there former glory!!!!!!

Here are my 2 additions. the black scaled pipe is one of my best shavers. unfortunately, i hardly get to shave with it since i have been learning to hone. razors to test you know.

the 2nd one is still in need of a little work. bullseye dome pins, pupleheart scales with 5 coats of polyeurothene finish. the spacer is white ABS plastic. i will try to get better photos of this when i finish with the blade finish.
