Normal, what? The lack of golden etching or the broken toe? Broken toes, of course, is not.

I meant the broken toe... it looks like it was cut out on purpose, or am I wrong? I mean is there a reason why someone would cut the toe, other than to remove damage?

The toe looks fine to me. It is the other end of the blade that has been modified.

Yes, sorry, my mistake. I meant "heel" but I wrote "toe". The heel seems to be modified on purpose but I guess for a reason. The heel was probably broken or cracked and the restorer modified it like that.
This will however change the stability of blade as the lack of shoulder will make the blade more flexible and unstable.

Restoration thing and certainly necessary.
