What do you call it when there is bone (or another material) around the tang like that pictured in the post above? (click on the double arrow to be taken to the original post)

A friend of mine said, this razor was made in the 1920ies, and that his Sanssouci was one of his best razors. That would mean, at least this particular one was made before WWII. But it could have possibly been made in the DDR (eastern Germany before reunion): In Berlin, there is a castle called "Sanssouci", pictured at the razor's box. I'll try to do some research, but I'm not sure, if I can find out more about this straight, as I said, I only got one reply in the thread I posted about this one.

I'm not sure, if any razors were made in the DDR, but they definitely had here manufacturers of DE razors and blades. Maybe they imported straight razors from Russia? If I can mange to find out anything more, I'll post it in this thread. Lets see, what the members of the German razors know about DDR razors.
i have a Sanssouci. But not with Solingen Label.....maybe it's a GDR Fake ..... but why?
    Nobody knows who the manufacturer.

In the early years SANSSOUCI was a trademark of Walter Kesemeyer, Wald-Solingen but after WW2 this trademark was used by Aug. Müller & Söhne, Solingen-Merscheid, who bought some prewar trademarks as BISMARCK, GLOBETROTTER etc. Those SANSSOUCI razors were often sold w/o the SOLINGEN script for Export trades. Those razors were NEVER made in the GDR or DDR, but there have been several dealers in Berlin (Paul Goertz TRANSAT, C. Zimmer), Halle (Herm. Müller HALLORIA) and Leipzig (J.C. Müller LIPSIA) trading with Solinger steelworks products.
Yours maybe one of those later export razors, definately Made in Solingen, but sold w/o the SOLINGEN orign scipt.

I've owned this for quite sometime It's my smallest razor but without doubt one of the most beautiful made razors I own, It as an extra hollow ground blade that's incredibly fine, and a great little shaver, I've listed many of my other razors in the razor club I don't know why I forgot to list this.

Vintage Maxotte High Grade 5/8 razor

    Hi all,

Just picked this up from Joe Edson's site Edsonrazors.com. It's 11/16 full hollow grind, haven't been able to figure out the exact maker. The blade reads 'Veritable Solingen', and the shank reads 'GARANTITO PER 5 ANNI SOLINGEN'. It's got a really lite touch and shaves great.
