Would you replace your celulloid scales?
Hello gents,
I'm the proud owner of the TI SRP LE #161, and since I love that razor so much, I decided to purchase another TI to give her a rest, after all, it's a limited edition razor, so I removed her from my daily rotation.
So I purchased the TI Special Coiffeur:
One of the things I like about the TI's are the pointy edged scales.
Should I stick with the stock scales? Are you for/against changing the stock scales on the TI?
I might be able to get my local woodcraftsman to make me a new set of scales in ebony wood. But even if they turn out nice, this razor won't be the 1937 Special Coiffeur anymore - it'll be a 1937 Special Coiffeur blade with a custom made set of scales.
I don't know what I should do. I need your opinions.

I generally prefer stock scales. TI's plastic scales are quite nice, too, so I certainly wouldn't change them to custom wood scales.

I've always been a big fan of leaving things in their original condition as much as possible.
It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain

Yeah, me too, actually.
I wasn't thinking of some fancy-weird-shaped custom scales. I was thinking of a set of scales exactly like the stock scales, but in ebony, for example. By the way, does TI sells replacement scales, just like Dovo does?
But even so, this razor will not be the 1937 Special Coiffeur anymore...
Maybe I'll just leave her alone.

Thanked: 735Your 1937 Special Couffier was made in 2005 (or sometime in the recent past). It's not a vintage collector's piece.
Therefore, if you want Ebony scales for it, go get them!
I'm a big fan of rescaling with wood. I feel that wood adds a touch of warmth & luxury to a razor, much as the wood panelling in a high end car does.
Just my opinion. Nice razor with whatever scales are on it!

I have a few Frenchies... I like them all, they are nice and wonderful shavers too: the well know Le Grelot (6/8 1/4 grind and full hollow), SRP limited edition and a TI 5/8 full hollow ground with Griffon scales...

I also wondered: will I change the plastic scales of my first Le Grelot, or not... but in fact I like them like they are; maybe one day I'll make some wood scales for her - but I'll stick at the same form. There is some kind of simplicity that I like also.
I don't own a special coiffeur, but I've heard that they are very good shavers. I hope you'll continue to enjoy yours.
