Thanked: 9Newbie question
OK, folks. As a young man (more years ago than I care to admit), I got interested in straight shaving and went to barber supply to buy a straight. I purchased a DD Goldedge. Used it for a while, lost interest, and put it in a box.
I recently renewed my interest in straight shaving, especially since stumbling upon the SRP, I've cleaned up the razor, touched up the edge, and am at it again. Having a ball reading all of the posts and learning from everyone else's experience.
One thing that I've been curious about is the significance, if any, of the different models of DD. Goldedge, Wonderedge, Satinedge, ad infinitum. Is there any difference in the manufacturing of the different models other than aesthetics or are the different model names simply like General Motors rotating different models in and out of its line up?

From what I've been able to tell all the ducks, especially the Pearlduck models are basically the same except for the scales and decoration. The only exception would be the Wonderedge which is cryo treated and the stainless which is stainless steel and the styleedge which is meant more for trimming hair and some of the hair shaper models they came out with. Also some of the models came in certain sizes only and with certain tips-round vs spike or came more so in certain sizes and tips like most wonderedges are 5/8s spike and most goldedges are 6/8s round but there are other versions also.

Ugly Duckling
Here's a Satin Wedge I picked up from a local flea-market. I usually clean a razor up before I hone it, but I got anxious to get this one shave ready and now I am reluctant to get the dremel too close.
It has a bit of rust by the pivot that I will certainly get rid of, but I will probably let the other aesthetic issues go as is for now.
It looks like an Ugly Duckling, but shaves like a graceful swan!
