My first two Bokers
Good morning gents! I have been shaving straight for a few weeks now. As I was sitting in class last Monday evening talking with our youth pastor, Scott, about razors - his DE razors and the two straights I had found - when another guy overheard our discussion. He seemed impressed (surprised?). Anyway, he told us to come out by his house after class (a mile away, maybe?). When we stopped by, he proceeded to show us "some razors a friend had given him."
Among those was one Gillette travel DE, in a case with a metal blade tin (patent date was 1902). A GEO. WOSTENHOLM & SON IXL, with a notched toe. And another unmarked straight. These were in Scott's hands...
And two Bokers were handed to me (see pictures below). I knew Bokers were great razors, so I was thrilled. We asked how much the guy wanted for them, and he said, "Just get 'em out of my house. I am afraid my granddaughter will find them and cuter her fingers off!" Once I realized they were probably worth more than he thought, I offered to give them back, or pay him for them. He indicated that he knew they were worth something, and didn't want a dime for them. I believe the fancy one's tang is Ivory covered (notice the small crack in one side).
The other Boker only had one scale attached, and it was broken. So, I re-scaled it with scales I made from Ebony (used replacement DOVO pins).
I would like to polish them up, but really don't know where to begin.
I would also like to know more about the razors themselves (production date, etc.)Just hoping that what I save on those disposable cartridges doesn't end up getting spent on styptic pencils and band-aids!

Shaved with this one this morning! Swiftly and smoothly removed a full beard that I have been maintaining since November. My best JNAT edge yet!
Available for honing mentoring in and around Louisville, KY

Wow. The Lord blessed you that day and you did a great job on the rescale. As far as polishing them up there is a wealth of information on the forums and in the wiki here at SRP. Personally, I like them just the way they are, but some gentle rubbing with compound like Mothers or Maas would sure bring out the shine and quality look. Proceed with due caution and you should be fine.
The dates of manufacture are always sketchy, but with Bokers there are some indicators.
(Hope I did this right) Bill

Some lovely Bokers in this thread. I'm new to the forum (Just signed up a few hours ago). There's a thread in the introductory forum.
Here's my Boker'
One of the "American Line SS St Louis" design. Nothing fancy, and a far cry from some of the beautiful blades pictured here, but it took a keen edge and shaves very well.

Did a bit more work on it today.
Just touched it up a bit more with fine paper. I think that's as far as I'll go. Don't want to destroy the engraving, or the patina.

Here are the same razors I had posted earlier in this thread, after using Flitz on them. Not immaculate, but I am pretty happy with them.
Just hoping that what I save on those disposable cartridges doesn't end up getting spent on styptic pencils and band-aids!
