It’s an kamisori grind razor. Also has this marking on the scales.
Yup, looks similar to my Eiko, beautiful razors....
Attachment 307670
Yeah looks similar to yours. Scale shape and marking are a little different but we’ll see.
The text says (Takemaru) whatever that means?
Yeah that’s what I got as a translation too. Can’t really find info on it though.
Razor came yesterday, shave test was awesome but took it to the jnat this morning to smooth it out a little.

Also found another razor I liked. Tang has these markings, anyone able to translate.
I’ve had a couple people look at that kanji. They all said generally the same thing.
Basically one side says: I have obtained a patent, or registered patent. Something along those lines
The other side reads: handmade good quality, and the company name kantou(kanto?) Riki
I’m going to my local sushi joint tonight, I’m good friends with the sushi chefs and they usually do all my translating for me so I’ll show them the pics tonight to see if they come up with the same thing.
On a side note I showed them this Japanese razor and Japanese natural stone thread. They were really impressed with the quality of stones and razors. They are all older (70-80) and they remember the barbers from their youth or seeing their grandparents with similar razors and stones. They keep asking me for more pictures any time I go in.
Thanks for sharing the story of the chefs, that was cool. I have three I will get pics of and post.
I have a few, starting with my Marlboro 500. My guess is that it was a promotional gift:hmmm:

small crack along the spine, maybe from hardening? It is stable
Attachment 308795
Any ideas who might have made this, don't think Marlboro had their own razor manufacture..
Tanifuji made the Cape 500, looks similar

Thanks, that one certainly looks very similar.

Tricho 2/8 but it is really 3/8. Only purchased it because it said 2/8. Shaves good and was cheap so not bad in the endAttachment 309443Attachment 309444
This pair came today from Mainaman/Stefan. Kamijo Yukio 13/16 and 15/16.

I am using the beautiful Western-style Iwasaki now. Does the letter "T" mean the name Tanifuji Fukutaro? Or something different?
Thank you

Does anyone know a good quality Japanese straight razor with 1/4 hollow or near-wedge?
Hoshi Tombo 8000 and the 6500 and King Pelikan 14 are all quarter hollows.
Can anyone identify this, thanks!

Yes, looks like some dirt on the blade. :;)
Bob
I will take care of it, but what about the razor?
Wish I could help. Another thread you could ask in https://sharprazorpalace.com/razors/...-requests.html .
Bob
Thank you, I will.
Hi to all!
Just bought (and used) my first Japanese straight. It's an almost NOS Friede 510 Frameback. Saw just a few images here, but no info about the producer and date of manifacture.
Can anyone help me to know more about?
Thanks!

Albeit almost unknown, it's already present in this thread... :)

Ive seen that model before. Theres a ton of Japanese framebacks from unknown makers. As Jamie said it's not from a well known maker but that doesn't mean it wont shave well.
On the rear tang there should be some kanji, if you post here https://sharprazorpalace.com/razors/...quests-30.html you will get some help.

Edit: beat me too it!
NOS Manaslu. M55. Y. Akamatsu Razor Works
マナスル.
This model is quite rare, serial number: 1343.
Perfect grinding, tiny bevel, looks like it just needs stropping. Cant wait to give it a whirl.

Did a side by side comparison of my Tanifuji 11/16 Manaslu 7/8. Although both full hollow and not much difference in size there is a noticeable difference in weight. The Manaslu feels so much heavier than the Tanifuji, not a bad or good thing, just different.
I also noticed that although they both gave a very close shave the Tanifuji was a lot smoother shaver.
Now the Manaslu was NOS with a factory edge that just had a good stropping and my Tanifuji I've had for a while so have an edge that I love. I just need to tweak the Manaslu to my preference and it will be a wonderful shaver.
Hard to say which one would get the nod, both limited edition and distributed by Nichiri Co, even the graphics and model stamps are particularly similar. Gun to the head I'd say the Tanifuji but only because what Tanifuji Fukutaro
did for the straight razor world.
