Stefan yes the cutting edge on the Hoshi Tombo is about 2" inches and the Giyana about 2 1/2" inches the spines are nearly the same both are over 6mm thick although the Giyana is a little thicker.

Great, I remember that the 6500 was with thicker spine than the 8000/8500. Should take an awesome edge.

    These just in:
    Hoshitombo 6500
    Friede 510 Frame back
SUB stainless. This is the first ever stainless Japanese straight I have ever seen. It is made by Daishi, the characteristic seahorse log can be seen on the blade. The back of the tang has the typical for Daishi ironsand description.

My first Kamisori arrived today. It appears to be an NOS Inoue Tōsuke with the original cardboard sleeve over the case. The blade is in beautiful shape. I can't wait to try this one out.
