It sure looks like mine. In the process of rescaling mine I made the determination that the butterscotch scales may indeed have been the originals (D'OH!), and the fact that yours has basically the same scales merely serves to reconfirm this for me. Based on the script I'm guessing mid '70's production. Does yours have the "Made in Germany" hiding under the show face scale? It looks like our two razors were certainly sourced from the same blanks...

How do you like your Backal? I'm thinking about buying one. It doesn't look like it says Dorko on it anywhere. Was Backal just another brand name they used?

I Believe that Backal was a razor made by Dorko. Now about your first question I just got the razor and I put it to the stones right away, so I went Norton 1k, 4k, 8k then to the Chinese for about 200 (100 too many), and then I went to a 1/2 micron lapping film and then 50 passes on the suede kanayama, and 100 on the cordovan (I know that it was a bit excessive, but bear with me). The result was a really smooth and forgiving edge, there was a little less feedback than expected for such size and grind compared to my Henckels. On a side note the razor appears to have had it's back and tang gold washed, the seller might have polish it out when he got the lot and does not come in a box. Above all a nice price for a nice size razor the takes a super smooth edge. Originally Posted by robert42556
