Thanked: 6
I think I have about 3 different Rolls put together for this travel and anytime setup.
I like storing an extra blade in there, it gives just enough tension to raise the blade off the strop. Just an a little extra peace of mind. I like to use it at least once or twice a week. It's the closest thing to a daily driver I use for shaving.
The extra blades are probably overkill. There's a guy over on B&B who has been using one as a daily driver for 60 years. Same blade. Same strop. One replacement hone. He broke the first hone about 3 years in by dropping the hone lid on the deck of the destroyer he was stationed on.

Thanked: 227I have a few of these in a box in various states, I really should dig one out and put it into use.
Has anyone came across a way of replacing the hone?

Thanked: 6To add to what's been said. They can be glued back together.
The easiest way to replace them is to buy another Rolls. There was a company making slate replacement hones for them, but that ended years ago.
I wonder how hard it would be to sand down an old barber hone to fit? And how fast would that clog up the respirator filters?

I would think it would probably be a lot easier to get one of the current China hones from like aliexpress or something and grind it down to the correct thickness than trying to use a barbers hone , as the china / aliexpress stones are Already very thin and wouldn't require much removed if any.........

I had a real nice one. Gave it to my cousin, he's into DE's, I didn't care for the shave.
