Just shaved with my 6/8. For some reason (maybe it just feels better in my hand), it is my favorite and best razor. I have 2 5/8s -- A R. Aust and a older Hoffritz, but the 6/8 is #1, with the R. Aust #2 a close 3d and the Hoffritz, even though it was honed by SRD a few shaves ago, just isn't as comfortable for me.

I have 2 Austs at 5/8 round point. Only one is currently in my rotation and the second is a back up. Nice razors and great price.

Hi all,
considering a new SR, I've looked on the website of herr Aust and I have a couple of questions. I hope anyone of you can answer them.
Herr Aust sells a 7/8" in 'normalstahl': in Pallisanderwood (+-270,- dollar). I assume this is normal steel. He can also deliver other SR's 5/8" and 6/8" in both 'edelstahl' or 'normalstahl'. I assume 'edelstahl' is stainless steel. Does anyone know if steel ('normalstahl') in this formulation is, carbonsteel? Or is that someting I'll have to ask herr Aust? Why would he not sell an in the basis more expensive SR, in stainless steel. It seems to me that stainless steel is more durable.
Does anyone of you know what an 'Amerikanischer kopf' is? In English it will be an American Point. What does it look like?
Thanks.
T

You are correct - 'edelstahl' is indeed stainless steel. 'normal stahl' is carbon steel.
And with that, they mean the 'square point', if I am not mistaken. Don't ask me why, as I am wondering myself and on one of the German shave forums they had a conversation about that as well, so I guess it is not that much of a common name.Last edited by Smoothy; 09-04-2013 at 03:28 AM. Thanked: 284I've got a 5/8 round point, plain black scales. I have a few other razors that aren't slouches (Friordurs, Henckel, etc) but I always base them off the shave from the Aust. Just a great shaver.
I love living in the past...

Thanked: 23The 7/8 round point Ralf Aust is very tempting, however SWMBO lacks clarity on the issue of straight razors. Great looking razor. Someone buy one so I can live vicariously!

I purchased the 5/8 and am waiting for delivery from SRD.
This will be my first SR.
This thread gives me even more confidence about my making a good selection/purchase.
I'll be sure to let everyone know how things turned out.
