Thanked: 3164These razors were being carried by starshavingsupplies in 2010 and they cost $70. Linder sells the direct for 87.50 euros, which is just under $120:
Even in the picture, the dark coating (I hesitate to call it bluing in light of what has been said above) appears patchy. In fact, knifeworks.com carry this brand even cheaper $77.95) and they simply call it a 'black coating':
KnifeCountryUSA sell it for $75 with free shipping. Seems the more you look, the cheaper it gets. I wonder what the mark-up is, that is, what does the cheapest suplier buy them in for?
For a razor that can't shave, it is still awfully expensive, though.
I agree with the consensus here - that someone who does not shave, does not hone and who has heard good comments by a third party is not somebody in a position to endorse a product. Please tell us why you decided to endorse it, and whether you were asked to. If it was the latter, that is as misguided as the former, as anybody wishing to sway opinion would have approached someone familiar with the use of straight razors to aid them in this questionable enterprise, rather than somebody without a clue other than what is written on the razors blurb sheet.
Also, your company seem to be the most expensive suppliers of this make.
I am not trying to be dismissive or put you down, although it comes across as that - all I am interested in is why you felt compelled to post this in the first place.
Regards,

Thanked: 3164Not only High Treason, but the Mark of the Beast from the Book of Revelation: “Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666.”
Hardly the options of the gentler sex - or are we being misled as to that as well?
Maybe I am just an old chauvinist pig.
Regards,
Neil

The tang is imprinted "Germany", not Solingen, yet the Linder web site calls the razors "Made in Solingen" in the english translation. However, in the original german site it says, and I quote, "Gefertigt in Solingen nach historischem Vorbild." Now, having lived for years in Germany I am a bit of a german-speaker but not an EU trade lawyer. Regardless, the english translation IS NOT what what it says in Deutsch. In German it says, and excuse my translation, "Made in Solingen according to [an] historical example." This is not what we know as the definitive one word stamp "Solingen", meaning The Steel Blade Is Manufactured in Solingen.
If German trade laws are anything like US trade laws, it is possible the principal value of the product is in the handle (made in Germany) and added cost of German assembly - not the blade (made I don't know where). As such it could be stamped "Germany" but not, legally, Solingen. I think if the blade itself was manufactured in Solingen then, according to German law, it would proudly and legally be stamped "Solingen".
My guess, some German translation hairsplitting to "Solingenize" an asian blade. My conclusion is based entirely on speculation and carries the full weight of, uh... the hearsay that generated most of this discussion. Guten Tag.Last edited by MisterMoo; 06-05-2014 at 03:31 PM.

Thanked: 0I came here with the intention to go back to my boss and say "hey, maybe instead of these, we could bring in these, they're better quality", that was my intention, but then saw what I was told is a great razor on the worst of the worst list, so I scrolled down to the thread that placed it there, and as I said, saw one person complaining, not a ton, but one, so I had to pose the question to myself "did he get a knock off?".
I found this forum because I was curious, I was doing independent research, on my own time, before work, as I will admit, I was wary about buying something that cost that much for my fiancé. After what I was told (quite rudely, for that matter), I will not be buying one, and instead I'll spend Saturday marking brands that are on the reccomended list. For now, I shall enjoy my weekend.

Sorry about our being rude. You see, lots come here to promote substandard blades, more often in a first post.
I suppose we are, in general, getting weary of it as some will come back repeatedly under a new name and start it over again.
I hope you can see my reasoning in this. I also hope you can find a quality razor to sell which will be profitable. As you return with questions about another, we will strive to help. Just not any on the list!"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

We all try to be gentlemen here, save for the ladies corner of course. We occasionally act less than we should so I apologize on behalf of the gentlemen. I think its admirable you are checking into things and wish to find a suitable gift. This forum is filled with excellent recommendations and sources, keep perusing and you'll find great options. I would recommend staying open to asking for input from the members here on certain brands. A lot of effort has gone into the info put forth on these pages. I hope you enjoy your weekend, and please try to take away some positives from this conversation. Best regards, morgan
