Thanked: 0Razolution Clarification
I'm aware that Razolution Straight Razors are on the "do not buy" list, however, from both a seller and a buyer, I have to get some clarification... It seems the Razolution Straight Razors on that list are NOT the same ones I am familiar with.
For some minor background, I work in a knife shop, and one thing I have learned about while working is straight razors, steel, and quality... The Razolution Straight Razors I sell, are made by Linder, Linder is a company that dates back to the 1870's in Solingen, it was started by the Linder clan, and then later bought by another family, also residing in Solingen, who kept the same standards as the Linders, their knives and straight razors have been made the same way since the company started.
In the store I work at, the Razolution Straight Razors we sell, have a MSRP of $120+, and are amazing pieces, forged, like other Linder products, in Solingen, from a really nice steel, often high carbon, I have even seen ones made with a powdered crucible, which is even nicer... We get the Razolution Straight Razors in, and they fly off the shelves, because of the reputation the Linder name has. Some people do balm at the price, but then understand why it's so much more, and the significant jump in quality, compared to Gold Dollar or Hen and Rooster.
basically, what I'm asking is, like so many other pieces, (Shun kitchen knives, for example) how do you know that the razor purchased was not a cheap imitation?
i would include photos of the Razolution Straight Razor that we sell, however, we are currently sold out.

Thanked: 3these razors, Linder Shop
I have honed these and they are utter crap I am sorry. They are essentially the same as the new generation Timor brand of razors and I suspect they are made in the same factory because the box they come in is identical. A cardboard sleeve with a black foam with a cutout of the razor shape.
If you havent honed other brands of razors you may not know but once you compare them to legitimate modern razor makers like Dovo, TI or other nice vintage razors such as Puma and the other legendary solingen brands... the difference becomes very apparent then.
People carry them for sale because the profit margin to be made on them is a lot more interesting than with Dovo or other legitimate brands.

I hear you have learned about straights from your work in a knife shop..
Now, what would interest me is to hear you describe how it shaves you?
How did you hone them, and with what result?
If you can, add in a comparison with other brands of reputable standing you have honed.
And the Hen and Rooster as well?
I have had a few hen and rooster come across my hones, and that was razor shaped object totally unable to shave anyone.
Letter openers, the lot of them.
Do you have any actual personal experience with them as shavers?
Or other brands for that matter?
If you do a search on this forum, you will see experienced shavers giving that brand two thumbs down.
And yes, they were marked Solingen Germany.
Which basically means jack.
If some Chinese or pakistani outlet wants to come across as a Solingen brand, they will have little to no problems etching them so...Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Thanked: 44Hmmm makes you wonder how much effort goes into making the blade when they can't even give them an even coat of black paint Linder Shop.
I'm not keen on black coated knife blades but I suppose in certain situations it has a use, on a razor its both useless and tacky. Just the fact they even produce one with a black coated blade is enough for me to stay well clear. Just my opinion

Hello Treason6661,
First, I would like to say welcome to SRP, something nobody has said yet. Secondly, don't be offended or put off by the way some of the post have asked questions/given answers. Its hard to differentiate between tones in text. I am truly interested to see if you could report back and answer some if not all the questions especially birnando's. Please don't see mine and my fellow forum members responses as off-putting. We are a very knowledgeable group and we only get that way by having active new members and learning things from them and their experiences.
Now for my opinions on those razors. I would personally never buy one. Even if Lynn (the founder of this site) said they were the best razors ever. The reason why is that their designs are tacky and in my experience 99% of knife companies think a straight razor is just a knife and only needs to be able to get as sharp as a knife. I say 99% because there is no such thing as certainty.
So please do respond to us maybe whoever put Razolution in the do not buy list got a bum razor/s or if it was the consensus of several people that they were bad however unlikely it is that every one just got a bad batch. And if that does happen to be the case I still wouldn't want to buy from a company that had that bad of quality control.

I have never heard of them and truely stick to known brands. Unless someone I trust on here has tried them.

Thanked: 0First off, before posting this, I read the entire link to the thread that put it on the do not buy list, and as far as I could see, it was one guy, bitching about paying $65 on eBay for a shitty razor that was crap. As previously stated, they retail for much more then that, and when I got to work, I checked the price, $139.99, plus tax, which where I am is 10%.
I find it hard to believe that it's possible to find something that cheap on eBay, especially when it's more then twice that originally, unless if course, it's used.

Thanked: 0I unfortunately, cannot answer, I am a woman with no body hair (yay laser hair removal), but we do have a regular customer that splurged and bought one, and he said it was amazing, that it handled well, and he got a really good shave out of it, but, I personally have no need, as I don't have any body hair to remove.
