Just to join the reality crowd...I have 7...I have 3 very special ones coming Monday or Tuesday. Since several of mine are plain black scales, I've moved the "non-black" hence "distinctive ones" out of plain sight to prepare for "justifying" the three that may be new, or may just be re-honed by an expert....or......you get it...
By the way $3000 buys a boatload of great classic razors!Just call me Harold

Thanked: 1184It all boils down to " If you want it, get it." Plan on something nice for the Wife though. The best way to get what you want without having to hear about it the rest of your life is sharing the need to spoil yourself by spoiling her also. Of course if this purchase leaves you broke then build a very nice dog house out behind the garage :<0)
Personally I would look for a vintage set. The quality is better and the value will go up better with time. Then you have the investment angle to play. Of course if she reads all this, again refer to the statement above about the dog house.Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Don't do it.
For that kind of money, get a pair of plane tickets for Italy and spend a day in the workshop with Mastro Livi making your own custom razor while the wife is out shopping.
Trust me, you won't need to do much justification at this point.

Thanked: 3225Perhaps a parallel question to be asked is: What does a divorce cost these days? I mean if it is going to possibly cause a whole lotta strife is it really worth doing. In reality it is only 12 lousy razors for a hobby you've been in for a few months against a lotta grief with the boss.

Have to agree...with a set there is an implied commitment to exclusively using that set of razors, whereas going slow, and having your collection build with your tastes allows you to have a wide variety of blades and styles - a set limits you, and it's pretty difficult to justify buying any new razors after that, even to yourself.

I am most certainly not trying to stop you, just to pause you and lower the chances of a big regret a little further down the road regardless of which way you go. I sure that for a certain person buying that set makes perfect sense, so the only question is whether you're that kind of person...
There is nothing special about 'Spartacus' in terms of 'razor' as TI puts the same brands and labels on many vastly different razors and they put completely different brands on the exact same models. I personally like the sound of that brand and one of my TI's sports it, but it's this one - Thiers Issard "Spartacus - horn covered tang" 5/8 - Straight Razor Place Library and I've kept it over others because of the design, the more refined workmanship than their regular production and the covered tang. I've had a few of the more standard ones like Thiers Issard "Spartacus" 6/8 - Straight Razor Place Library but I don't think I have any of them anymore.
I'm sure it's fun looking over the many available offerings to pick what you like best, though
