Thanked: 2Wow,, it must get quite tricky deciding which one to use,, I have enough trouble choosing out of the meagre 28 that I own! I own mostly Sheffields and 4 solingen, 3 Swedish and now 1 USA made razor which I have yet to try.
Out of your vast collection, which you country do you think produced the best razors? Or do you think it's more down to individual makers? So far I'm still with the old Sheffields,, but perhaps that's because they make up 2/3rds of my collection,, hence more numerically likely to make up most of my favorites

Thanked: 2Haha yea, if I owned one, I would be the same... They always seem to fetch a premium price on the bay... Much higher then any Sheffields,, with the exception of maybe a few like Wade n Butcher,, I don't know if it is because those Spanish razors are more rare,, or just that they are a superior razor,, but they must be good either way..
I was thinking of trying a French razor some day soon,, perhaps I will keep my eye out for a Filarmonica instead

Thanked: 2Probably getting a bit off the subject now,, and I will have probably changed my mind again by next week,, but right now I am just loving my own Ford and Medley near wedge green horn? Handled 6/8 razor,, just a joy to hold and shave with,, I only paid I think £15 for it with box and in great condition,,, would not even think of selling it for £200+++ !
It's just too special,, and one of my first ever razors.
I will be buried with that one lol

Yes, I agree, the Filarmonica's are spectacular razor's IMO....somehow it seems I've also started to collect Filarmonica's...I have four so far, and the two #14 8/8's I have will never leave my collection, along with any of the W&B's...not many more W&B's I want...but there are lots of Filarmonica's...and of course the odd French frame back....

I have a habit of culling through the quiver on occasion and getting shed of those for which I have lost the fascination. Usually (not always) they are replaced with a new dalliance. Truth be told, I do the same thing with brushes too. There are only a few razors and/or brushes which are exempt. Actually one of my more recently acquired high end razors will be on the block very shortly..probably in a few weeks. I'm sure it will go to a good home.

Thanked: 433I enjoy the thrill of the hunt more than having a giant pile of razors, so the ones I don't bond (or have doubles) with after I clean and hone them get resold

Thanked: 24Well I have been at it for just over a month and I have 18 razors and 4 in the mail.... I need to bridle myself in a bit... I have always had a thing for knives so it only makes sense that I have a hard time controlling my appetite when it comes to razors.
