I could definitely believe that OP's razor is in its original scales.
It very well could be. I'm not going do doubt it completely..................

I also don't think it would have cell rot because it appears to be original tortoise & even if it were dyed horn, it wouldn't have cell rot. It has some beautiful inlays on it. I would most definitely love to have it if the price was right, even though it is possible the blade may have been changed out!
I believe those scales had a blade in them that was much straighter w/o a stabilizer or thumb notch in it.
I have to agree but I really think the bottom line is what ever the market will bear. I was watching one of the shopping channels on the TV I think it was HSN might have been QVC. Any way, they had the so called company representative on the show. He was talking the show host was talking, the caller on the telephone was talking all at the same time. It seemed like the volume kept getting louder then they had the price rolling across the bottom of the screen it was really "Manufactured Chaos" I think e-Bay does basically the same thing.
When you bid on an item and then within a minute they send you a notice you have been out bid. Bottom line is Manufactured Chaos or Greed.

Scales shaped like coffins is a french trend from the 1840 years

Here it is indeed genuine tortoise with silver, gold and MOP inlays.

I was willing to bid around 200€, but I heard a friend of mine was willing to bid more, so I let him. He won the razor, to make a pair as it was suggested by another member.

And if it wasn't a steal, it still is a fair price.

Edit : the blade is also of top level, with an unusual nose.

Edit bis : it will be paired with this one

    Yes

I'm first going to try to diminish the worms' bites, then I'll hone it and shave with it before it goes back (sigh..) to it owner.

Ebay razors are selling WAY TO HIGH. Why? People with to much Money and Too Little sense, are what causes the Ebay Eschers and Razors to be so high. Yep, Stupidity raises its ugly head on Ebay. Rad, Had, Gad, whatever, it is all SAD.

You could read the same thing here two years ago, 4 years ago, and probably six years ago....people spend their money on what they want to, it doesn't have to make sense to you. The market is what the market does...couple of years ago a Puma was considered the razor to own, and they were hard to find and expensive for the time. Now you can find them everywhere. Double Ducks when I started we're going crazy at auctions, whenever one came up it was WAR...now they're relatively easy to find, they still cost a bit, but on the whole the condition they are in is much better.

Big Sheffields now seem to be the hot item, when I was buying, and I gravitated right away to the W&B's, there were ton's of them, and they weren't anywhere near as expensive as they are now, and there were a lot more of the big quality razors.

Next year, another flavour will take over I'm sure, but the market is what the market will pay, and most people if you told them you'd paid even $50.00 for an old straight razor, they'd look at you like you're nuts....
