What he says. Most in France/Belgium etc... do prefer pastes (mostly Puma green), and only if that doesn't work anymore they would consider using a hone (often a coticule).
Saying that the Naniwa 12k's are considered Da Best is a very straightrazorplace-centric point of view.

That is not what I stated at all.
"I am pretty sure, myself excluded for the sake of your arguments, that there is a pretty good reason the Naniwa 12k is perhaps the single most recommended high-grit synthetic for touch-ups and edge refinement across just about every razor forum..."

I was simply trying to express that there is a huge following for synthetic stones and that naturals were not the only thing going...moreover that the edges they produce are very good as well.

I digress....I am not party to Euro forums because they are not relevant to me, so if everyone wants to take what I stated as blasphemy that is fine. I stand by my remarks, as well as by my opinions based on my personal experiences.

Either way, mute point now. On to the next thread.

For me the 12K Naniwa is a great touch up stone when a edge gets to pulling and a pasted strop does not yield the smoothness anymore. I will usually use my Thuringian for several strokes then finish up on the Naniwa. It is a great synthetic stone in my opinion.

I know there are so many schools of thought on this and I am constantly tweaking it a bit to find that sweet spot like that of a golfball to a golf club.

Sometimes it is not what you say but how you say it that grinds people the wrong way. It must be a cultural thing.

??????? Well everything comes from a natural world even chemicals in combinations to make chemicals so I say essentially one could argue all things are natural with the caveat that some things are just combined!

But is the world a natural thing or was it created to be a plaything for another being? If so everything is synthetic

Dear charliechevy (the OP, in case anyone has lost track) -- you asked how many people hone for SRD. I think (but don't know) that only Lynn Abrams hones for them. However, I suggest, now that we're on post # 50 in this thread, that you either call or email SRD and ask. They are very friendly and accommodating. I, in fact, have been unexpectedly called by Lynn once when I asked a question.
