I find with my square points that I don't use the very tip of the blade, unless I have reason to. In that case, I am cognizant of the potential to get a nasty cut. I try to hold the edge of the razor perpendicular to my face, ensuring that the point is not making contact all by itself. This sounds like a big thought process, but in practice it's really not. I use short choppy strokes too, so if a cut occurs, it'll be a small one.
