Thanked: 23Anything worth doing is worth doing right. Good call on the 8/8, and the black scales should really set it off. I don't know whether they can mirror finish the blade or not, or how much it would cost, but I don't mind dangling more temptation in front of you...especially using your money. Regardless, you will be very pleased with PRC's craftsmanship. I'm an only child, and just a bit envious...

Thanked: 10Review: the Gryphon from Portland Razor Co
Factory reset!
So been shaving with the Gryphon as my main beard razor for the past 6 month. Following @lloydw advice, I've been doing 4 to 6 laps on chromox to keep it sharp, but it's been getting a bit duller with time. It needs to go back to home but I've been delaying; I am not an experience honer and I worried that I would ruin the edge. Well, I took the plunge yesterday.
Used 1 layer of 88 electrical tape,
12k naniwa super stone, lapped with a dmt 120 plate
Did 10 laps with a bit of light pressure, and 10 laps with no pressure. Just up and down, no x strokes
Then did 20 laps with chromox (sounds high but that is how they finish the razor based on Portland co's YouTube video)
Then did 60 laps on leather
Did a shave today and it is back to BBS in two passes, just like the first time! I am thrilled.

You guys are killing me with PRC envy! My neighbor whom I recently converted to straights got one of their Sprites just recently (after trying several of mine), and it is a beautiful razor.
I definitely hope to get one soon, but I'm sure I'll go with one of those 8/8" chopper-sized ones from the artisan series.
For what you get, I think their prices are very good as compared to some much higher customs makers from even their standard lines.
But like some others, I too don't get the whole off-center pinning concept. They must glue that wedge to keep it in there.

I thought maybe the off center pinning was something you would have to see to appreciate or something. No, not really. It looks every bit as goofy to me in person as it did on the web page. Honestly, to me it looks like something I would do trying to center the hole, and missing. I love my PRC, and it is a fantastic blade, but I do not care for the scales.

Thanked: 10I guess it is a matter of taste. I don't mind the look of the pins at all; I didn't actually notice until you guys pointed it out. The scales seems solid to be and provide a nice base to 'sit' the razor on my counter between passes.
