Ah, but yours is not the rarest of the Ottoman Egyptian razors. I've seen three like yours, but only ONE that was misspelled!

Ha! Yes, for awhile I thought it was mine that was in fact the one in the SRP Library, as it's the same grind, versus the one that belongs to a member of another forum that has a different grind with that elegant notch at the heel of the razor.
That and mine are the only two I know of, but I did remember that you'd actually held one other and were aware of another 2, which makes 4 that we know of, and at least two of them are "different".
Is that about right?

I am 98% certain I bid on the one you got from Germany when it went through eBay. SRP member EisenFaust and I were planning on pooling resources -- he needed someone in America to ship it to and I wanted to hone it and shave with it and was willing to pay a bunch for the opportunity, so I put in our combined bid, but it was not enough. And, frankly, considering what I've paid for some stuff since then, it wasn't even that high a bid.
4 total sounds right, though now that I really think about it, I'm having a hard time coming up with the 4th. There's the misspelled one, the one you got from Germany (which I'm pretty sure is the one that went through ebay) and the one from the other forum that has the heel notch and the reground point.
Separately, I have razors that have all the notable features of it, but none that combine them all. The closest being my Gilchrist No. 14.
The thing that continues to baffle me about the Ottoman Egyptian is the hotel of that name is very solidly 1890's, while all the other razors with similar features are 1850-1860. It's probably high time I dug into research on that again, because I don't think the idea that the razors were made for the hotel is supportable anymore.-Zak Jarvis. Writer. Artist. Bon vivant.
