Thread: My dads razor....I know nothing about this...can you give me your opinion?

Bartmann is a good razor. Yours has some condition issues. I could recommend having it disassembled and cleaned-up. The blade etch should be preserved.
The rust and pitting on the edge needs to go. Some honing will be required to get past that.
The scales may be deteriorating. The gases they put out will cause the blade to rust. Box is from another razor.
Are you going to shave with it or display?

Thank you for your kind words. Since I am reluctantly going through my fathers possessions because my mom has to move, I will keep an eye out for the proper box if he has it. There may be a few other razors also. Now that you guys have explained this to me , I think I would like to get it in working order. I am my fathers daughter, so I have no need to use this razor personally, but maybe my son (18yrs old) will appreciate it someday. Until then I can keep it for display and it will keep me close to my dad with a good memory.

Roy.....I am beyond humbled by your offer....I really can’t even imagine how I could be this fortunate to find people that care about other people. I wish my dad was doing this with me....He would have loved this....it is something we never talked about....I didn’t see his razor until 2 nights ago when I was separating his tools in his workshop....I knew he had the strop since I was born, it hung down in our barbershop/hair salon in the basement.....I want to learn and I want my son to learn as well....thank you for giving me faith ....Kathy

The razor is on it's way to an Exclusive Straight Razor Spa Resort in the boonies of Northern Idaho where it can relax and be refreshed and feel like it did years ago when it was young and in it's prime.
