Yes... but what if the other guy has a gun?! You could defend yourself offering a free shave and then, after pampering your attacker with a hot towel, warm luxurious lather applied with a silvertip badger brush and some conversation about sports... WHAM! Sweeney Todd style! That's the only way I can imagine a straight razor as a weapon... But I guess it would take some time and a barber chair as an accessory to murder...

Thanked: 335Anything that can fold up on the fingers holding it makes for a chancy weapon for the holder and a possible weapon for the adversary who may be able to close that blade on the fingers that hold it. If you want an edged weapon for a knife fight, get a properly designed Bowie. Used by someone who knows its use won't necessarily render the adversary into his component parts, but it most likely will leave some of his parts laying around.

I'll take a plain old sturdy knife any day of the week as a weapon over a straight. That's a no-brainer. BTW, if someone knows how to use edged weapons, you probably won't know they have it until it's too late.

Thanked: 102I have never observed or participated in a razor fight although i have seen the results of a razor slash.
Leaves a wicked looking scar.
In my opinion the bowie is the perfect edged weapon. It will slash, penetrate and chop.
A man armed with a well designed Bowie who has some fencing knowledge and the will to use the knife is dangerous.
Anytime an edged weapon enters the scene the price of poker goes up!
My personal favorite edged weapon is the Al Mar Warrior - though no longer made it has all the attributes of the bowie and is adaptable to several other methods of use. However it requires some study in its application.

It depends who's holding it. You can kill someone with a key, or a pencil, or two fingers for that matter.
I'm sure it would make quick work living up to it's name as a "Cut throat razor". Granted, it's not a combat Ka Bar knife, or Glock, but it'd work.
How many guys who chimed in have actual combat experience?

Razor sharp wits are probably the most effective weapon.

Razors were weapons used by youth gangs in the 1950s and the idea there wasn't to dispatch someone but rather to just slice them up. Used by a skilled knifefighter you can do some real damage but the only really vulnerable area for a razor is the neck. You don't have to cut deep but you have to get close and be very fast.
