sorry to hear of your ban. john you are a great guy and i go back and forth so much when you make our TX meetings on whether or not to get one of those from you. your service and products are great and i hope the stupid ban at B&B does not reflect here if someone wants to do business with you.
hope to see you at the next one.

Not that I am answering for John, but I have seen people's knowledge and integrity questioned by certain members there if you disagree with them. It's not like here where we respect and appreciate one another's input - even if we disagree. If they tell you the sky is green, and you disagree, they question your honesty, motivations and knowledge.
Some of it was truly bizarre and made me wonder if certain medications were not being taken. Anyway, that's what I saw all too often. YMMV

Thanked: 953This is totally true. If you disagree with Joel or certain of their moderators, they immediately attack your character, which is tiring. Not to defend John [who as he is the first to acknowledge, can get a little testy], but in addition to the thread that was linked, there was a review Joel did of the Bokers where John then posted a disagreement, and then Joel immediately launched into an ad hominem on John and his business, which is just nasty. If you miss that, you miss what set John off I think. And Joel has done exactly the same thing to a certain standout custom maker and others (and then sometimes his moderators clean up and delete the Joel's posts that make him look particularly childish).
Medications not being taken has jumped to my mind as a possibility too, though I suspect it's really just a personality trait. Anyway, I wanted to get in the part about the hackjob on John in the review section just so people understand there was an ad hominem that set him off, and Bruno I don't think John was attacking you at all, but now I'll stop talking about that gateway site for beginning wet shavers [at least until someone else has a funny story and I just can't help myself].

Thanked: 24Bet this guy, Who ever he is, is laughing pretty hard about now about getting you all riled up.Forget it and move on and let the products speak for themselves. This isn't really that big in the whole scheme of things, is it? Sounds to me like EVERYBODY is taking their turn at the Kleenex box! Let it go...............

not trying to argue here, just discussion right?
so saying that, i agree if it is something that you and i both have opinions on, then they are just that. opinions. however if the item in question is something personal to me, like say my business or the products in which i sell, my opinion may be a little stronger than if i had no interest in the beliefs of others.
i am sure that if you ask the company owners of ZEEPK, their 'opinion' of their product is going to be pretty high. (a lot higher than mine for sure.) so for john to be animated when he defends a product he sells, i get it. he sells quality stuff and has great customer service. taking a knock on something he sells looks at a direct reflection on his reputation for selling those items. i hope this makes sense.
good luck john.

Thanked: 735I am a memeber at both forums. I must say that Joel's ineterative guide to straight shaving is what got me started with the straight. He does post a lot of reviews that I have found to be pretty spot-on, but there are other points of view that are just that---his point of view. He certainly can have *ahem* rather strong opinions...
What I like about B&B is that it has a alot more info on the soft goods side of things--brushes, creams, soaps, etc.....here at SRP we seem to focus on the razor itself (and for good reason, mind you!), but the sopas, creams, brushes department is severely lacking!
Thus I visit both places. They have their different strengths, and they also certainly have a different "vibe" from one another.
Sorry to hear about your ban, John. That's a loss for B&B in my opinion.
