    1) if the issue is that you are not sure the razor you have is shave ready, take it to Ross's and have them look at it. They would probably hone it for you for a fee. If it is a question of whether it is reputable steel, just tell us what brand of razor it is.
    > I did just that, and this is when Ross Cutlery told me it was not possible to sharpen the razor I purchased from a SRP member.

    2) I certainly hope that you have (by now) contacted the member in question. They will probably want to make things right. Since, at this point, there isn't a way to be sure if it is the honing or the stropping, I (personally) would shoulder part of the cost (if it had been a razor I sold).
    > I actually contacted the SRP member before opening this thread, just to make sure I was not missing anything. Until I get a overwhelming consensus that the unit I purchased from the SRP member is actually a junker, I have no basis to say anything negative about the SRP member (and like I mentioned before, the SRP member has been very courteous and was kind to answer my questions about razor care, etc). Even if the group consensus is that I bought a worthless unit from a SRP member, I really don't have any desire to vilify them - I just want a quality razor

    3) Send it to one of the honemeisters.
    > Great idea. Who would I want to send it to?

To make up for this I will give you a razor of my choice, honed to my standards for the cost of shipping $5 (there is 5 cents for gas).

I will PM you my paypal ID. PM me your address.

Pyment - that is very generous of you to offer, but as I mentioned in my reply to you PM, unless you have two different ID's on SRP, you were not the SRP member who sold me the razor

I'm almost tempted to take you up on your offer, but I couldn't feel good about making you part with a razor for $5 when I've never bought anything from you

I have this Anton Wingen "Red Point" that I had listed in the classifieds that didn't sell. I wasn't going to lower the price any further. It has a few flaws, some Pitting on the blade, The scales are warped, but it closes cleanly between the scales and it shaves well.

I was feeling, "I'd rather give it away than lower it more." when I saw this thread. The planets were lined up correctly. I felt a member of the forum needed to do this and it happened to be me this time.

Pyment - that is exceedingly generous of you to make that offer. I want to recognize how exceptional it is to have an online community like SRP where the members care so much about community that they step in to help a newb, especially when that they are under no obligation to do so.

I am sending the $5 for shipping to you via paypal now.

Does anyone have an opinion on the razor that I purchased from the SRP member? I posted the pictures that BKratchmer requested (see post #31 on this thread).

I'm a newb, but that looks to be a Double Arrow. They're not Pakistani, but, I believe, Chinese. People have all kinds of opinions about the Double Arrows, but a lot of members really like them, often rescaling them. Sometimes the Double Arrows have quality control issues with the overall grind, and the scales are cheap, but the steel is decent.

I have one and I like it. It's not my most comfy shaver; it doesn't have that magic smooth feeling some razors have, but it shaves well and without irritation. I recently re-honed mine (to set the bevel without tape) and it pops the hairs off my arm. I find myself returning to it because I like the utilitarian simpleness of it. It's just a nice, cheap tool - nothing fancy.

So, it's not a high end razor but neither is it a worthless razor.

Yeah, it does look like a DA but, a fairly well made one--not as rough as mine was, anyway.
