Thread: Real Dovo or Fake?

Considering this is NOS, perhaps (wild speculation here) this was a joke done at the factory by a playful employee. It could have been caught by quality control and set aside only later to be released by accident. If you can't (or don't want to) return it, shave with it and see how it shaves.
If it is a fake, why would someone that otherwise did such a great job misspell Germany?Last edited by radaddict; 10-06-2009 at 02:59 PM.

Thanked: 4942Very interesting. At first based on the blade etching, I thought it might be a hold over Fritz Bract blade that dovo stamped....... First mis-spell I have seen.

Thanked: 14Yeah, like I said, with all the other details right, why screw up that one. Unless they thought it would keep them from getting sued later. Unlikely though.
I couldn't find any other information on the etching. Do you have any other information on it?
Btw, does anyone have a contact at Dovo? I don't mind dropping an email, but not sure if it would get dumped to spam right off the bat, since I would be sending an attachment. If no, should I just use the generic aol address they have? [email protected]

Maybe one of the vendors could help you out as I'm sure they have to return quality control problem blades all the time. DOVO - Masterpieces in steel - DOVO in Solingen - That is a contact form from their webpage... its the only one I could find, but I didn't look TOO hard (I'm in class right now).
As an aside, I think it is interesting that they are still under the Bracht name.

If Lynn hasn't seen that miss stamp I doubt anyone has. The thing with miss stamps is that most are mistakes. Like there was a Dovo special that had a stainless stamp on the tang (Lynn might remember this). This was a case of either the wrong stamp being used, or the right stamp being used, but a stainless blade got mixed in with some special blanks and no one noticing. That is at least explainable. I don't see any reason why Dovo would even have a "SLRMANY" stamp to begin with. Maybe the stamp was made wrong and they meant to destroy it and withhold the razors, but one got out? The odds of that I feel are low, and I really think contacting Dovo is your best bet.

Thanked: 14Yeah, I am going to try dropping them an email now. I may go back and buy the second one and open it in front of them. If it has the "Made in Germany" stamp, no worries, I have another razor. However, if it is mis-stamped as well, I may have a case for getting them to take it back. It may be a hard sale though, as they might not get the difference between "Germany" and "Slrmany." Anyway, thanks again guys.

It probably was one of the Dovos made in their Slrmany factory. This was done so as not to confuse them with Factories in german, germny, gerany, gemany, or grmany.
Seems pretty obvious.

I would not purchase a second razor from them, you may get stuck with two knock off Dovos. Show them the miss marking, on the one you have, and ask for an equal exchange. They should do this for you, if not, it may not be real. If they do and the new one is miss marked ask for your money back, hopefully they will give you a refund.
Call the BBB if either of these things happen.
