The classifieds here are the best I've seen on any forum of any type/group. Spend some time on there and you can find some nice razors.

    I understand your pain. Totally.

I was at a shop the other day, and this man must have thought he was going to have a gold (razor) rush on his hands. He had about 40 SRs thrown haphazardly in a box like a bunch of pencils. I got excited as I got closer to the box, and then was completely deflated when ALL the blades were either chipped and/or rusty, and a lot of the scales had missing pins and cracks.

Not one blade was priced under 50 and if it had anything other than cream or black plain scales, they were closer to 100. At those rates, I might as well save up for a nice new tortoise coloured dovo.
It would be great to have more than one blade I can shave with, but for now, it's going to have to do, because I don't care how high collectors and sellers run up the prices, I'm not, and I can't pay them. I barely have an income, forget about disposable.
So, I'll just keep looking. Ebay has become impossible. I hate it when it gets down to under 60 seconds, and you think you might have a decent razor for around 30 bucks, and then you see the price spike up past 60, for a blade that will need at least a little work.

As an aside on collecting, I hope my rookie McDonald's Sidney Crosby's rise like that; I need the money. But if not, I'll continue to hope he plays for Toronto one day, and I will sell them off locally. We're hockey fiends in this town, and I love the game, but have no emotional attachment to the cards.

Before I ran into SRP, when I was alone in the straight razor world, I bought a few razors from Ebay for about $20 with shipping. I did so solely on the basis of the appearance of the blade and scales. I struck out on one razor (spider rust.) But, the rest were fine. I was lucky!

Initially, I bid on a few razors, and was almost immediately outbid. After a few futile days I tried another approach. The way I got past the unreasonably expensive (bid too high) razors on Ebay was to search for "straight razors", and jump to the last page of the pages of razors offered me for browsing before bidding. On all of them, as I recall, I ended up being the only bidder.

But, buying here is better, everyone says.

Not sure I follow your meaning LarryAndro? You do a search for SRs and then skip to the ones where the auction is ending in a few days or more?
I don't understand how that would better your chances? Sorry, if I'm missing something. I'm so confused? Maybe it's my meds?

And yeah, I agree. I just may end up giving up the search on Ebay and saving to buy one that is at least shave ready from the guys here. Given how some of these auctions are ending, it's probably best just to peruse the classifieds here.

Agreed. Ebay is really starting to suck, oh and how about those 15.00 shipping charges to pay for a 2.00 box and recycled newspaper to put a 3oz item in lol.
Its pretty bad when they try raping you on the shipping as well as the product your buying (this goes for anything)

Yeah, and those are the ones that will get a big fat zero, in terms of stars for the feedback on delivery charges. When I'm charged 15 US for postage and I can see the sticker on the package says they paid 2 or 3 dollars, it's infuriating. But Ebay is starting to suck all around, for both honest sellers and buyers. And now that Ebay owns Paypal, the double dipping on charges is even more infuriating.

    Sorry for my poor explanation.

    * On Ebay, searched for "straight razor"
    * Returns 1,417 hits, spread across 29 pages.
    * I skipped the first 10 or 15 pages of straight razors.

Then, started looking. My thought was that the least eyeballs were trained on the last pages.

I'm not looking to collect really (one restored razor would be nice) but I have just recently been checking ebay and noticed the prices are a bit stiff, I assumed it was due to (from what I've read) a recent surge in SR enthusiasts. I can't complain too much, I'm new to this so technically that would make me a part of the problem although I'm too cheap to be driving up prices on ebay, I'll find my one vintage razor at a deal or move on.

I feel for you guys that have been around a lot longer and are watching your community get a bit crowded but more in the community has meant more information to learn from online, unfortunately it seems the price on razors is a sacrifice for more information I guess. A trade I am more than happy with so far, although just another sacrifice for you seasoned members.
