Ebay has ruined people chances for people who want a good razor to get one
Here I am looking on Ebay for a new/used razor to USE. And of course I have to compete with some peon who has unlimted income at their disposal. Me like many others cant get a good razor because we are not willing to sink much money into something just because it has the word vintage attached to it. Seems like the razor market has been ruined by collectors and ebay alike. Another good example is when I walk into an antique store and see a razor. I will ask the seller why he wants 60.00 for it and as usual I will get the blank stare. You know the stare right ? The I don't have a f*****g clue stare a shop owner will give you. They didn't use a price guide or have it appraised but they can tell you its worth 60.00 and to tell you the truth he prob bought it for way less or obtained it through a low bid at an estate auction( just using a recent experience ). Vintage, Rare, Unique or otherwise these razors are not worth what people are paying for them. Just my little rant.

I saw a no name razor today for $35, it was rusted and needed new scales. I suppose I don't understand pricing razors at all

I don't think I could have paid that for a rusty razor. The best buy on a razor I ever made was my Torrey. Slight patina and was dull. spent about an hour on it and now its shiny and very sharp. Price was $5.67 no joke. He has some with broken blades but they have good scales. So I think I am going to get another just for the scales to fix my Griffon that had a broke scale at the pivot. Also only paid 5.00 for it at a flea market. Blade is very nice and still has a mirror finish. You can see it in my pics, kinda blurry but there. Now i have the handle removed to polish it up more before the new scales go it.

I know of one fellow who lives here locally who bought a few ebay razors for under $20.00 each that were good razors. They needed to be honed and they weren't ducks or pumas or fillys but they turned out to be good shavers for him. If you watch the ending soonest and keep your eyes peeled there are reasonable prices out there. A week or two ago a partial seven day set of ivory handled joseph rodgers went for $121.00. It was 6 of 7 with one missing. I meant to bid on it and forgot.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

+1. I see plenty of ebay stuff for $25 to $45 that would make a good "work horse" razor. The flashy, cool, minty, or sexy will cost more though.
I have won seven bids in the last year. They are all good, vintage shavers. Average price was $30. No restoration needed. Just clean, polish, and hone. (They're not pretty but they aren't that bad either. )
