Thanked: 25Gun blue
Gun blue is a form of rust not paint. So most stainless will not blue. There are other ways to color stainless gun barrels.
Some stainless is magnetic particularly the types used for knives. I do not know off hand which are but it should be easy to search.Last edited by jreiter22; 11-06-2009 at 03:02 PM.

Thanked: 735Wow. That is strange.
The 200 is like $5, and the 800 is $17. The 200 has the nice deep blade etch, the 800 has a quick laser etch.
When I was quoted the price for te 800 ($17) I was told that was because it used stainless, whereas the others did not.

Might that explain why they hold such a good edge?

The steel Gold Dollar uses is a very high carbon alloy tool steel. Their stainless steel, as with any good razor that is stainless steel, has a considerable carbon content. Otherwise; the blade would not take or hold an edge. This is much the same as Dovo or Henckels razors. If you notice, most INOX razors say "stain resistant" that is due to the carbon content. To me the big thing is not to try and compare the Gold Dollar razors to the Dovo and Henckels. The Gold Dollar razors are the best value in the straight razor world at this time. You're getting what you pay for. I have long promoted the Gold Dollar as a the most economical and yet quality razor on the market. Believe me, I've gone through and reject a bunch of razors in my quest to offer the starter package that I do. I have a lot of customers that use the model 84 as their only razor and have for a long time. I also think that what Seraphim does them is out of this world! His work really shows how great this razor can be. I'm grateful GD doesn't put that much work into the razor or they wouldn't be very economical anymore.

I got my 108 today, took what two weeks..whew..I have some other models coming, they look all alike.
It wasn't super sharp, but did scrape hair off my arm right out of the mailing envelope. I'm a noob with honing...so here's my practice razor..
Wish me luck.
