I got three more the other day finally...as it takes so long to ship. a 66,208,777. Of the three, the 777, was in the best overall condition. I use a chinese 12,000 stone, and my Illnois strop and it was passing the hht....that was a first. The other two...the 208 was the worse, becareful with some of these, the scales were not aligned, seemingly like a bent top pin..so that the heel of the blade pokes through the lower end of the scales..the spine from the tang forward is slightly twisted with highly illregular jimps...now...it too probably would work out just fine, but obviously I need to put it in new scales...that carbon fiber look is odd anyways. I'll shave with the 777 gold monkey this weekend and see how it goes. So far that one seems the most promising.

My two 208 both came with misaligned scales as well. Out of curiosity, I hit one of them with my father's vintage Daybrook hone, 20 laps on Ray-Man Hard Balsa Crox Strop (no, I'm not a paid endorser) 20 on canvas and 20 on leather to see what happens. The result: a three pass BBS shave. The scales do suck so I will be rescaling one of them, the other I'm gifting to a friend.

Thanked: 735Gold Dollar grind
I was modding a razor (what a surprise!), and lopped off the tip.
It was a quite clean cut, and gave a nice view of the grind on these razors. You can see the even grind, and the "belly" from the full hollow.
Just thought it was kind of neat.

Thanked: 735I'd put it about here on the chart, I'd rate it a "V":

I just got a gold monkey last night and although my eye is not as trained as yours, it did appear to be a pretty even grind on the razor.

Thanked: 735Nelson (and any other GD re-scalers out there),
Please be aware that more likely than not the tand of your razor is not straight in line with the body of the blade, and will cause you mucho headaches trying to get it to fit in a new set of scales. Please see post #3 in this thread for a remedy.

Actually Seraphim, I added the information from that thread as well as information from a number of threads across the resto section to a new wiki article a few weeks ago, (then some of the other members went through and cleaned up my mess)...
Blade Centering - Straight Razor Place Wiki
If you you could take a look at that wiki yourself in case something was missed, that would be great.
In the few blades I have restored I've had to use almost all of these methods for different blade alignment issues. (had to use a couple of em just for the JR torry I did, that one was an alignment nightmare).
